Bipolar 1 and took a hard mental fall this weekend. I don't work (SSDI) and my wife even decided to take time off this week so she could be around me more. My sister and mother have both had 'the talk' with me about how important I am to them and don't do anything stupid.....I feel on the verge of breaking. The last time I was in the hospital was 2 years ago for 2 months. At that time I had the resources to go to a private 'country club' hospital. No more resources but good insurance. I am terrified of going into the local psych ward. It is in a hospital in a pretty small town. I just don't know what to do and I afraid to call psych doc.

Psych doc is the one that can help you. You can certainly get stabilized outside of a hospital, so there is always that option. No need to put too much pressure of self. Glad to hear that you have good insurance. Good Luck.

The first hospital I went to was nice, nice people with prioblems, but my pdoc at the time was a real ***. You can start meds at home with a pdoc supervising. A hospital may not be necessary.
