Lithium and thyroid

So frustrated right now... saw my Primary doc on Tuesay and asked him to draw my thyroid panel, BUN, Creatinine for kidney function, and Lithium level because I see my new pdoc in 2 weeks from today. He did and I got the results back and my TSH is 6 which is significantly elevated aand my lithium level is 1.12 which is high normal. I hate my old pdoc... I told him I didn't need to be on 1200mg of Lithium... he's stupid!!!! Not with a strong family history of thyroid disease. You don't do that. I told him that and he didn't listen. Hopefully it's not too late so that I have permanent thyroid damage. My primary doc wants me to take Synthroid (levothyroxine) which is the drug of choice for primary hypothyroidism but I refused at this point... told him I'm going to decrease to Lithium 900mg and wait to see the new pdoc in 2 weeks and let her decide what to do. I'm just so frustrated!!!! I'm almost toxic level with the Lithium and my thyroid is getting burned out all because my old pdoc didn't listen!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH. Sorry all... really needed to vent. SO frustrated.

I had a Pdoc like that, not regarding the lithium but regarding the antidepressant. It's not good. It might be worth writing a not to the old one to inform, if you don't want to report him for some form of malpractice. If you don't Ok too, but keep in mind he will be pullung the same thing with patients who aren't as savy as you.
