Hey all,
Im new to the site, I was wondering if anyone here taking seroquel and had a spike in their triglycerides. Had bloodwork panel done last week, and triglycerides are a little over 300, normal is 150. Ive been on seroquel for 4 months and also gained 45 lbs.
thanx

I have taken seroquel on and off for several years. I only take it for a couple of days at a time because my cholestrol and triglyceride levels have gone sky high. Also, weight gain is a typical symptom. What a trade off, huh? I walked five miles a day to combat the weight gain. it helps the mental health but wreaks havoc on the physical body.

I have been on Seroquel for over a year at this point and havent had any side effects at all except for extreme sleepiness and a hangover in the morning (I take it at night). I should mention that I'm only on 25-50mg for sleep only. I have never taken above 50mg so I would think for those that are using it for control of your bipolar sx and are on 200-400mg or more it would certainly be possible for it to cause metabolic problems as can all drugs in the same class (atypical antipsychotics). Definitely discuss this with your pdoc... These meds can also potentially cause diabetes later down the road as well. I would say you're on your way to that between the weight gain and the high triglycerides (but moreso the weight gain). Good luck with this!!

I was taking 400mg a day for about 7 months. It wreaked havoc on my body. I gained a large amount of weight. Blood sugars went up as well. I tried to keep the weight off but it was no use. Good luck to you though.

Ditto, but they really didn't say anything about the blood work, so it was probably OK. Made me fat and happy

Thanx 2 all of you, I take 400 mg just to fall asleep! I would have like to try seroquel xr, but because of high triglycerides now, my doc said no. I had kidney failure a few months ago, so finding a med I can take because of it gets discouraging!!!

I havent been working out because I have been so depressed. I see a new doc next week, so im hoping to try depakote, I hear that makes you gain weight as well...ugg Ive tried a LOT of antidepressants over the years, the ones that work cause really bad side effects, especially prozac! OMG...My moods were so erratic I was glad to get off it!

I see my new psychiatrist today. I want off seroquel! It helps me sleep, however I have had no luck losing weight with cardio and yoga. The side effects are just not worth it! having my triglicerides high and the weight gain is not healthy. I dont even want to leave the house because I feel so self conscience.

Appt. went ok, as I said in another post, Meds are limited because of recent kidney failure. Off the seroquel and back on 600mgs deseryl and 25 mg strattera...hoping its a good combo! The only thing I dont care for is the dry mouth with deseryl but ill take that over the weight gain anyday!
