I've been wondering something of late. As of next month, I'll have been in one big manic episode for a full year with mixed states in between, every few months depending on what meds they put me on.

I was diagnosed with BP type 2 but everything I've read says that there are 'usually' 3 to 4 episodes a year with 'normal' in between. For others with type 2, do you find this to be true?

How many episodes people have varies greatly.

What seperates BP 2 and 1 is manic episodes. If you've had a manic episode your BP 1.

Okay... then I'm confused. Do you have to have psychosis to be classed as type 1? I mean, the hallucinations and being able to tell real from the unreal... I had my first auditory hallucination a week ago but knew it for what it was.

The types confuse me as well... I've only ever had what I believe as a proper, full blown hallucination once, years back. Now days, I can't tell if some of the things I hear/see are part of a hallucination or not as sometimes I'm 'aware' that I'm 'willing' it to be there. I don't know' I make no sense. :-(

Yes, you do make sense I'm not really sure it even matters if I label myself as type 1 or 2. All I do know is that my bipolar is 'progressing' and I'm working hard at not letting it freak me out.
