So I am new here but been taking Seroquel on/off for a long time... finally just stopped cold-turkey as it were last Monday. Was taking 300mg/day of Seroquel XR (best formulation of Seroquel by far) but couldnt deal with the weight gain, constant hunger... I feel balanced but fat and ugly. :/

I've been unable to sleep all week and shaky... stable still but just feeling like cr_p. Any ideas on how long this is going to last? I cant wait to see my psychiatrist this weekend and hopefully get on Geodon... I hear it has far less weight-gain effect.

Nice to meet you all...

Depending on how long you took it it will take a while to get out of your system. But to stop cold turkey is not good! You should decrease you dosage a little at a time.... You need to talk to your pdoc asap!

I take Abilify (had sever reactions to the Seroquel) no weight gain and hunger; it works great, for me anyway. I have manic depression (aka bi-polar), and I take the Abilify along with my Venofexidine(sp).

Please let keep us posted on how your doing. I know what your going through, though. Best of luck!

And Welcome to PC!! You can PM me anytime! Keep on Posting!!

Come to find out certainly most of what I was feeling was withdrawal... but then settled into (or by circumstance ended up with) a stomach flu.

So I'm feeling fine now other than the regular stomach flu kinds of issues... which actually brings another question I've had.

So this year is the longest I've been on Seroquel [XR] and I've also gotten sick more times than I ever have in the past... does the use of antipsychotics/Seroquel reduce the immune system? I know Clozaril for sure does, but didnt know about Seroquel...

I looked up Serequel on www.rxlist.com and didn't see anything like that on the Side
Effects page.

I really trust RX List as well, however even for Clozaril they don't mention the severe drop in white blood cell counts... so severe that doctors have to measure them monthly.

I'm thinking there would be something observed, but not necessarily fully-documented. I trust the whitepapers on drugs, but I dont trust the drug companies entirely...
Thanks for this!

Ive noticed a definite decrease in sickness after starting meds for bipolar. i was in to see the doc for colds, flue, ear infections and all around feeling crappy all the time. i think the high level of stress from the undiagnosed bipolar killed my immune system.

Kzw2zx, is there any one place you find the whitepapers? I would be interested in reading them concerning my meds.
