Just a quick question: I suffer from quite bad anxiety attacks, often starting just as a wake up and I know I have to force myself out of bed and the chest tightness, adrenalin and racing heart beat will will subside.

But every time i start the day off with an anxiety attack I know i'm going to have a terrible day - I'll probably be snappy and agitated, as a way of putting up a wall around myself. I take everything said to me as VERY personal and over-react. This leads to me feeling guilty and usually starts a spiral of depression.

I take Alprazolam 0.25 mg - up to 2 tabs, 3 times a day - but I just don't think they are effective enough.
Any other drugs you have used and had better results from than Alprazolam? I have just phoned my p-doc, but got the answering machine, so I'm hoping she's just consulting and can get back to me asap.

I've never taken Alprazolam, I take a different benzo called clonazepam, 1mg 4x day PRN. It doesn't always help, but I'm in between pdocs and when I start with my new one in June I might ask about other options. The only other advice I can give is to try relaxation or guided meditation cd's or deep breathing. Those don't always work either, but are worth a try. I really like the Total Wellness CD set by Belleruth Naparstek. I hope your pdoc can find something that works for you!

I take Xanax XR, 2 mg twice a day. I have a lot of trouble with anxiety attacks and it has helped quite a bit. The Xanax XR is time released, so it stays in your system longer than regular benzos. Also, I am doing biofeedback. So far, so good. I have had two anxiety attacks this week, but that's better than previous weeks.
