Right in front of me. He was choking on something, couldn't breathe, was foaming at the mouth and was staggering. He was starting to look like he was going to pass out. His eyes were starting to go back in his head and when he could focus on me, he looked so helpless. He wasn't making a sound and was trying to get his paw in his mouth. I tried to stick my fingers in his mouth and do the baby mouth sweep, but it didn't work. I grabbed him and tried to do heimlich on him but it didn't seem to work either. I ran to the neighbor who is in a vet tech program in her high school and she came over. By the time we got there, my dog was OK and was excited to see her. My attempt at heimlich must have loosened whatever it was.

I shook and rocked back and forth for more than an hour and I keep reliving it in my mind. I don't want to go to bed because I will see it every time I close my eyes.

I think it triggered me because I am all jumpy and anxious now.

Omg, what an ordeal to go through! I am so sorry that had to happen to you. While it was a close call, remind yourself that your beloved dog is now ok and try deep breathing to calm yourself down. Give the doggie lots of hugs and kisses!

That is a very scary and distressing thing to have happen! I'm sooo glad to hear that he is well. It takes awhile to calm from such an event, that's for sure, so be kind to yourself, ok? Doggie is well, you helped him, he loves you and you love him. It's all good. Deep breath...

What a scary thing to have happened, thankfully you were quick thinking in a crisis and did what had to be done, life doesn't really prepare you for when things like this happen, but you were very prepared and did what had to be done. You deserve plenty of praise and your dog loves you even more than he or she did before because you are you!!

How terrifying that must have been. I am glad he is okay now. Give him a scritch behind the ears for me.

That is awful. I'm a cat Mum and she's the only child I'll ever have so I understand how deeply people love their pets. And I think it is even more acute when we are people with mental illness - the love is so strong and for me, the fear of loss is accordingly strong. But you both made it through and that's great.

Oh hon, that must have been so terrifying!! I'm glad he's okay. Did you manage to cuddle with him and get some rest?

He has been sick today. I am still worried about him but I don't think he is in crisis.

(((BNLsMOM and Dog))) - so sorry this happened and you did the right thing by trying the heimlach on him. I understand how traumatic this must have been. Any idea what he choked on. I'm glad he was okay and sorry he's not completely well.
