I saw my new pdoc this morning (finally!) and he did add a small dose of Celexa to help with my mild depression, irritability, and to hopefully help me not be so tired all the time. I'm a little nervous about starting new meds, I always am, because I tend to have strange reactions to meds, and I've been allergic to so many things. I was reading the side effects, and OMG, there are zillions of them! So I was just wondering if anyone has taken this med and if you've had any of the side effects? What were they and did they pass with time?

I will be following up with him every 4 -6 weeks for awhile to monitor any side effects and to make sure it doesn't push me up into mania. He said that if I run a *little* on the hypomanic side that wouldn't be a problem; it's better than running a little on the depressed side. It really is a small dose, only 10mg, so hopefully there won't be any problems! BTW...he kept everything else the same so I'm still on Lamictal, clonazepam PRN, and my sleep meds.

Thanks for any input!!

I did (was put on Lexapro, then generic-ized to citalopram). As for side effects, I had pretty serious jaw clenching. It didn't go well for me in other ways, BUT -- and as we bipolars know so well -- ADs by themselves = NOT good. It was at a time when I'd been misdiagnosed by a GP who was clearly out of her realm. As a adjunct to things that stabilize mood... no experience there, but I'm sure others do have.
Good luck grizmom, and I hope it gets you to just the right place. Slight hypomania? If you get that, send some over, ok?

Thanks!! I'll be sure to bottle some hypomania up if I do start to run a bit on the hypomanic side! I'm sure I could make a fortune selling it to other beepers and people with depression.

I was on Celexa and Zyprexa for bipolar, depression, anxiety, Anorexia, BDD and a host of other conditions. Other than slight weight gain (mostly due to the zyprexa, devastating to a BDD/Anorexic like myself) i didnt really have any of the side effects nor benefits from it. I quit taking them both a while back as I am a Naturalist in the first place and don't believe in meds for myself personally (although they can help some people) , they were forced on me. I quit taking them both a while back and didnt see a difference when I quit either.

My gma was given celexa&it made her like a zombie&she seemed despondent while taking it so her MD took her off it. It was scary to see my poor gma looking lost. She is a very strong, outgoing, well spoken woman&the celexa took that away from her until she quit taking it.

I've been on Celexa with no results. No side effects either. Unfortunately, it will act differently on everyone so it's hard to tell how it will act for you. Good luck and I'd love a bottle of that hypomania if you have some extra!
