So, we had a new boss a few weeks ago and he called our first bi-weekly team meeting tonight.

every time i started to say something, someone talked over me. I could have coped with it once or twice but pretty much every time. and then, despite knowing i was going to say something, i didn't get given the chance too. I know I've only been there a year and they're all twice my age but why should I get talked over?

Then I decide to see if my healthcare provider covers psychotherapy. It does. for 6 sessions over 6 weeks. However, the only person is 30 miles away, I'm not going 30 miles each way for a 1 hour session for 6 weeks! might as well wait the 12 - 18 months the NHS are saying it'll take when they actually get around to doing me a referral!

What's the point?

dear Lotus,,, i just lost my job for going head to toe with a boss more devious than i,,, so don't go there~! it's surprising sometimes what silence can do,,, if you don't speak up, they may all become curious, or think you are being respectful,,, you can't control them, so focus on changing anger to amazement, or something like that, you don't need a therapist to do that,, and if you want to talk to someone, there are plenty of us here in the evenings,, who understand anger and frustrations,,, hope you get it together and KEEP the JOB~! Gus

You might have to get really assertive in order to be able to make them shut up and hear you. My field is like that and it drives me nuts at times.

I don't understand the NHS. Therapy is an important part of ensuring lasting change and avoiding triggers of mental illness. It also helps with med compliance. Making you wait so long for therapy seems like they are just begging for people to relapse and make their conditions worse. Of course the US system is so expensive the same things happen over here.... I am fortunate to have insurance that doesn't mess with me too much.

it's not just my boss. it's th eother 3 guys i work with. sometimes i think they just dont respect me cos i'm a) a girl and b) half their age. It shouldn't matter but clearly it does. i think i'll just keep my mouth shut. they won't notice anyway. noone really cares what i think / say at work. everything i do always ends up being someone elses - i do something, someone else gets the well dones for it.

i've not even had a referral to therapy yet despite being told i would. i see the pdoc on tuesday so i'll bring it up then.

there's no one i can call. well my cpn i guess but what's the point?

lotusflames: Just a suggestion..if you wrote down your thoughts while you were in the meeting and then take them to your boss later, then it will be a calmer exchange and your co-workers won't be able to steal your time to talk or steal your thunder, either.

my conselor from my job does phone sessions which make it easier for me since I work nites and sleep in the days, its easier to get up for a few and call her rather than getting showered and dressed.
