I just get more sui - it seems the most logical thing to me when I'm really down, I'm really not scared of dying while I'm in those stages either. Paranoia I'm not sure about, because I just try sleep.
Flip, beginning to wish I did experience full psychosis. The scary thing is that i was first Dx'd Major Depressive Episode with Psychosis, and I'm not even sure what lead him to the psychosis dx???

I'm confused now, please help friends...

I was dxd BPII: I experience more high's than lows (the high's aren't high enough to be manic, Hypomanic fits better, but the lows are suicidal low) and my very Low is accompanied by psychosis... That's why an atypical anti-psychotic was added to my cocktail.

QUESTION
Am I still BPII?

For me, unless I were to experience Mania, I would not classify it as BP I; now I am also a little confused, as at my last T session, my T felt I was more BP I than II??? I've never been MANIC!!

Psychosis during a depressive episode is not considered for a BP II diagnosis.

Mixed episodes and/or mania are considered for a diagnosis of BP I. Either way like others have posted the classification doesn't really matter as long as the treatment is correct.

Thanks blue, I guess I'll ask my pdoc if my dx has changed... Just wondering about all these criteria... Now that you mention it, I have been known to experience the odd mixed episode. Thanks again for clarifying Blue. XOXO

I had forgot about mixed episodes being counted towards a BP I diagnosis too until my pdoc told me I was diagnosed BP I and not BP II. I was always diagnosed BP I, but had assumed I had BP II because I had never experienced mania, but I have experienced mixed episodes.

I think what made my dianosis so hard is that I would SLEEP! Sometimes not much, but I would. That is where many of the old diagnosis would fall apart for me because I would show a clear speeded profile but I would conk out if I could be wrestled horizontile. If I could stay verticle I could go on pacing and shredding my hair and cursing and crying for easily a straight 24. I can forget to go to bed. Still, I don't get the days on end no sleep, but I clearly get the raging, nocturnal, anxiety powered, paranoid, restless depressions where I see things in the corners of my eyes (which i have not really mistaken as reality, thank God!) and thought I have heard voices calling my name. These are where my hypomanias end up, every time. But because "manics don't sleep," therefore I can't have had a "real" mania, so I can't be a Bipolar I. go figure.
I would never have diagnosed a patient with my profile as a bipolar II. It doesn't fit the categories at all, and the presence of the psychotic features is a bipolar I marker. I just think that some pdocs are afraid to put the more severe diagnosis on in the false belief that somehow they are helping the patient by giving the the "milder" diagnosis, and that the way the body handles the sleep is somehow the big key to it all. Keep in mind, I was diagnosed mainly ten-fifteen years ago, and much has changed. Huggs
