![]() ![]() He has since started me on a mood stableizer. I seem to feel better, but I still have days that I am depressed and days that i cant explain how i feel, i feel like im going to bust if i dont do something, go somewhere, I get angry, and later i look back and feel so bad for the people that I hurt. Having said all this....I have a psych. dr a friend suggested, and last week i had an episode, i was depressed then i was hyper, and irritated if i was still, i had to move around. I wanted to make an appointment then, and should have, but i didnt. So now that i feel good again, i dont feel like i should make one. I changed dr.s and this one said that he should have referred me to a psych dr. for evaluation and diagnosis from them, along with rx. I dont know if im coming or going. |

You need to find a psychiatrist you trust. A mood stabiliser and anti-depressants are a good start for a bipolar patient, but you need to continuously stay in touch with your doc to let him know how you are doing. It could take quite a while until your meds are sorted and you are more or less stable.
I'm glad you made the difficult decision to speak to a doctor in the first place. Any I promise you will also get the support you require from this forum; we've all been thhrough, or are going through this difficulty

Welcome immoody2010; seeing a Psychiatrist is important and I would suggest making an appointment and go whether you feel okay or not. Educating myself on bipolar really helped me recognize my own symptoms and it may help you as well. I would also suggest tracking your mood to see if there is any pattern to it. I use a great one online at http://www.medhelp.org/land/mood-tracker
I hope you find this site supportive and I'm glad you decided to join. ![]()

Don't feel bad about seeing your doc when you are good, cos thats when you are best able to talk rationally about things, esp if you keep a mood chart etc...

The initial meeting is getting to know you. Your history, he'll want to make his/her own evuluation whether you are bipolar and if so which type. Within each type everyone is different. Some extremely different. Knowing your history is very important, especially for when you have a crisis.
If you have a big problem when you go for a meeting you'll want to spend all your time talking about it. It would be frustrating if your pdoc asks many questions about history when you want to focus on something else. Some have not felt comfortable with a pdoc they've tried. It is essential that you find one that you can trust and believe will do a good job for you. It is possible you wouldn't with this one, you'll want to have one in place before a crisis hits.
