Tommorrow I see my Pdoc. This is the first time I have seen him since I lost my job. In order to be able to get unemployment I need him to say that I am cleared to work. I have been on medical leave for the last 6 weeks and per my Dr. I am on leave for another 2 weeks. I really hope he really releases me. I have been feeling a lot better although I have been manic here and there working on my website and graphic design and been experiencing a lot of ADD and I think I will be asking my Pdoc for some meds for ADD.

Hi Larylynn, I don't understand the above. Can you not stay on medical leave if you're pdoc says you're not able to work? Are you diagnosed with ADD? ADD and BP hypomania; mania; can share symptoms, so it may just be the BP.

In the US in order to get money for unemployment you have to be able to prove you are ready willing and able to work. So if I am on medical leave then I can not receive unemployment benefits. Since the "fired" me for no fault I am entitled to money. I have to apply today. I am sure my old employer will fight this and my mother in law has hired a lawyer, but we will see what happens. I have a case since they discriminated against me due to my bipolar.

I am diagnosed with ADD, but because of everything else that was going on he was not treating me for the ADD and since I wasn't working it wasn't a big deal now that I am trying to work on my website it is a big deal and I think it is making me manic if that makes sense. Like I start out the day having ADD opening up a up this and that and then not staying on task and then on a day where I was not manic at all I am full on manic with a million things open not knowing what I have done but some how have accomplished a ton of stuff just not all the stuff I needed to do. So yesterday I have a pad of paper out trying to stay on task and still this was so freaking hard and I was not a bit manic, but the ADD was griping me at every turn.

Yup on the first. It is one of the questions they ask each week you are claiming for it. BF was on unemployment not that long ago, and now they do it over the phone. This was totally new to me (Lol, and less than a year ago I learned of cameras over intersections--like..for catching running red lights. In some things I am very behind the curve. ) But I digress (really?! ) When I had to collect while working for a seasonal job (about 3 months in winter off), it was on paper. It not only was one of the questions, but you had to fill in 3 jobs every week that you went in to apply for (except one year when the economy was so bad they knew it was a waste of time. ) It was always a waste of time for me, as I was always going back in spring (I had a 2 year degree in it, so...) and the places would always say, "um, why would I hire you if you're going back to work in x time?" With the subtext, "why are you wasting my time?" Ugh.. They should have had some kind of exemption for this (as surely there were quite a few others!), but didn't. I don't *think* they do that part anymore, but LaraLynn can enlighten.

On the second? Oooooh, so can relate! And am definitely a list maker (just ask BF, he thinks it's so funny). The number of times I've said, "Well, I got a lot done, but (almost) nothing on my list!" ("If I could have a nickel for every time... ) It's kind of funny, but also kind of frustrating. (My psych people have thought I probably have ADD, but recently determined probably not, though I did score very high on one of the attributes.) LaraLynn. Maybe you can make a list at the end of the day, listing the things you did do and then cross them off(!) Ah, the crossing off. Very satisfying. Might make you feel better about it(?).

Hello! So the Dr. released me to go back to work even though he thought it was insane that my boss would say that I "voluntarily quit" while on medical leave, but he was VERY happy that I was no longer working there. He also thought it was insane that I couldn't be on med leave and collect "unemployment," but said he felt I was doing much better. He also put me on a low dose of Adderall for the ADD and instead of seeing me every two weeks like we have been I will now not see him again for 5 weeks so I have made a bunch of progress in the past 7 weeks.

I tried to apply for the unemployment online, but I have to apply via the phone and the were to busy so I have to call back tomorrow...FUN! So now we start this process. We will see if my old company fights this or not....THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!

This is great! I expect the Employment Dept. will grant your benefits; I believe your ex-employer will have to prove you quit and they can't. Sorry about the ADD, but happy you got the Adderall. I can tell just by looking at how long your sentences are! When I read them, they were just racing thru my head! Try to be patient - once you have all that creative energy under control, you'll be on fire!
