Although I am dx'd as having major depression and borderline personality disorder, I have recently been exhibiting characteristics of bipolar disorder...mostly the mood swings. The mood swings are happening daily and are extreme. Could there be a possibility of having bipolar disorder?

Gee, that would be a thing you best have your pdoc evaluate you for. Too often people arrive at a DX for themself according to internet descriptions or books, the info is fine, but it is best for a mental health professional determine what's up.
So many disorders have the same or similar traits, that even pdocs sometimes miss them or have to work really hard to make a proper DX.
Meanwhile please take care,
DE

it could be. I was first dx with major depression then later i was diagnosed with bipolar 1. I would go see ur pdoc and have him/her evaluate you.

Best of wishes..

I second BlackDragon's advice. I was initially diagnosed with depression until I was finally in hospital for treatment, when I was DXed with bipolar II. It's an evasive illness to identify. And if you're not getting the right meds and treatment because of a misdiagnosis, it can cause you a lot of trouble. I speak from experience. Cheshire Cat.

I too was DXed and treated for major depression,by my GP 4 yrs before I had been DXed with Bipolar-II(mild) after a major life disturbance. Soooooooo, I personally feel a pdoc is the one to see, I kind of feel I had wasted time, pills, fear, during the time I felt my GP had a handle on things, perhaps had I first went to a pdoc or therapist, I may have gotten proper meds and therapy, then to have melted down into further depths of a mental disorder.

Just my personal feelings on this, pertaining to myself.
I cannot stress enough to have a pdoc evaluate you and prescribe the meds if needed. Gp's are good for common health ailments but are not licensed or qualified to make any psychiatric assessments.

Take care now,
DE

I was also given the Dx of major depression and it took a trip to the hospital to finally be Dx'd with Bipolar II. I argree that the best person to properly Dx you would be your pdoc. I hope you get some answers to your concerns. Please keep us posted.
