For those who were so helpful, just wanted to let you know the follow-up to the pharmacist incident....

The pharmacist was in today and I asked to talk with him in private. I told him how I appreciated his concern but not that he brought it up in front of all of the other patrons or that he interjected his opinion in the process. I am aware of all my meds as are all of my docs; they are on the same page. If there is a contraindication or other health risk with the meds, he can contact them directly as well. However, in the future, if he would please talk to patrons in private for any issues without his personal opinion would be appreciated.

You'll never believe his response. He was concerned. He couldn't understand why someone so young and well adjusted was on so many meds. All I could do was laugh; a lot of you have heard my issues. It was involuntary and I couldn't help it knowing my history. I pointed out perceptions are not everything and if that it is how it seems, it is EXACTLY B/C of the meds that I can function. Then he had the gall to ask what it was that made me think I needed them. Then I was pissed. I told him this was beyond his professional scope and he needed to stick to dispensing. If this was a field he was interested in dabbling, he needed a career change but was not using me to do it. I asked if this was going to impact his ability to do his job and if so, I would have to make a call to management. He backed down and said there would be no problems. I told him again that I appreciated the concern and help as they are the ones who keep me safe with all the meds I am on and hope this will continue. He thanked me and then went to get my scripts personally to check out.

This was not how I expected this conversation to go. I never thought I'd dread going to the pharmacist but we'll see what happens after this. I wish there was a regular schedule for them to avoid him for a bit but not possible so we'll see what comes of it. Anything else and I will be making that call.

Good for you Fresia. The pharmacist sounds like a complete bonehead.

Aw, what an idiot he sounds like. At least you handled it well and with grace. I am proud of you

You should report him anyway. No right to say the things he said to you. No right at all. And, you are right, he is not educated in these matters and could face a lawsuit if he keeps giving unwanted advice to customers.
My pharmacy is very discreet and that's what I expect of them. They never even mention the med names aloud where everyone could hear them.
Sorry you went through this. But I would nail his *** to the floor for that.
What bugs me the most is that he asked personal questions of you as well. What? Does he have a crush or something? Freak.
Thanks for this!

Way to go, Fresia!! That took courage to confront him AND deal with his idiotic responses... I'm so impressed! (Don't know if I could have handled it as gracefully as you did). I don't know what his deal is but it sounds to me like one of those people who are against medication for mental health (which is BS). If that's the case he needs to get a new job or change his attitude. Just know that he's in the wrong and you shouldn't feel bad about going to get your meds. I would definitely see how the next time you run into him goes and if it's bad I would definitely talk to management. Good luck! You're awesome!

ditto what everyone said. Is it an option to change pharmacies? If you can hit them in the pocketbook and let the manager know why, maybe it will stop that moron from treating others that way, not to mention you won't have to deal with him anymore.

You did a great job handling the pharmacist! After that, I feel fairly certain that he will be very differential to you in the future.
Thanks for this!

Now I'm really ticked off. I just went through all the scripts and I'm short two packs of pills that there were supposed to be 3 and short 20 pills of a 60 day bottle. I called them in yesterday and so I have no idea who the pharmacist was that actually filled them. I have to go back in tomorrow and talk to someone about THIS now. There was a miscount of pills about 6 mos ago for another script (first time in 11 years), was rectified by giving me the missing 15 pills. I could see mistakes now and again but with everything combined now.... I'm beginning to think it is just time to switch pharmacies even after 11 years.

I'm tired, I'm sick literally (flu), it's the holidays (definitely emotional), dog's sick, and trying to hold it together as it is. Maybe I'm overreacting but why does it seem like everything now has to be checked up on to make sure it goes through correctly all the time, anything with billing, insurance, doc office's, prof's, scripts... why? Another example, got a bill yesterday for visit to the doc that she said she was not going to bill as routine b/c of the problem I was having and she billed it as routine so now the insurance won't cover it, $310 plus labs. Just one of endless things lately. Can't something go right?! I know it's just pills in the other case but it's one more thing to do tomorrow when I really just need to stay in bed and how can I prove I didn't get them? Just lovely and what are the chances of it happening twice, actually 3 scripts now to the same person? But I'm the one who could be stuck. Arghhh. I'm just so tired of it all right now. I'm going to take a bath and try to get some sleep. Perhaps things will look better in the morning and will feel better too. How long can this damned flu last anyway. Geez.

I hope you feel better. The flu sucks. I just got my flu shot. My daugter still needs hers.

Once one of the pharmacy assistance called out across from the dispensing area to where I was waiting asking if I wanted the zoloft and the lithium filled!!!! It was pretty funny (coz I just don't care!!!) but my sis who is one of her bosses was there and so chewed her out later!!!!!

I hate going to the pharmacy. Usually things are handled professionally, but sometimes I can just feel those penetrating eyes jabbing me with disapproval over what I have to put into my body. My last fill for four meds the tech read them outloud in a booming voice - I was so embarassed. I want to do mail refills, but I know how uncomfortable it can be to miss a day or two while you wait for the mail to arrive if its late. And I can't change pharmacies because I am a member of an HMO and I have to use their pharmacy if I want the med covered. <Sigh>
