I had to recently (spelling) change pdoc over the past six months and I am feeling a bit lost. I was with my previous one for 7 years and I actually think I miss her?? As much as I despised her for telling me the way it was, hospitilizing me for every major swing ("its for your safety") and drove me to tears at some appointments, I still miss her. The new pdoc wants to change all my medications to "his way of thinking" and I find I dont even want to go to my appointments.. PS I have an appoint sat...and have already come up with about 40 reasons I CANT go, I even planned on being terribly ill tomorrow. His last advised after I told him I was tired of taking so many medications everyday and the side effects where always such a downer was to try fish oil. "natural rememdy for mood stabilization" his words......and btw you have to take 4 tablets 6x a day! WTF??????? Why in the world would I change out a twice a day tablet for 6x a day, I have enough troubles with keeping to my 2x a day responsibility. As for the reduced side effects - I "might get a fishy breath smell" NOT!
Anyway - just wanted to vent that out....thanks for reading (listening)

I recently changed my pdoc after 7 years as well. BIG DIFFERENCE. I still don't quite trust him as much as I should, but I'm getting there. I have found though, that treatment for Bipolar Disorder varies between docs, since this one has me off anti-depressants all together, where my last one kept upping the dosage. Give him some time, and yes that means a couple of months, to see how it goes, and if you don't like it you can always find a new one.
Also, there are some fish oil caps out there that you can get that won't make your breath smell fishy. Just make sure they have an enteric coating. |

I once had a p-doc tell me about fish oil and she said that she would stop treating me if I switched to it. I did buy some to augment my treatment, plus it is really good for the heart. There are brands that make pills that have no fishy burps or breath.
Then my p-doc abandoned me in a crisis and wouldn't fit me in for an emergency appointment and I had to go to the hospital even though it was something she probably could have taken care of. I have moved on to my new p-doc who is actually a nurse practitioner (It is easier for the message board to say p-doc) and I am very happy with her. |

I can understand you not quite trusting your new doc yet.You built up a strong relationship with your last doc over seven years and got used to her. I would be devastated if I had to change my doc as I have built up a firm level of trust with him.

Well, hubby dragged me to my appointment - kicking and screaming (just kidding) and it wasn't as bad of a return appointment as I thought it would be. I straight out told him, "Im not using the fish oil, I want off as many pills as possible". He added a new drug in place of two others I take - Woot off two to add one. And advised me that my therapy appointments needed to be weekly in change of removing any other pills. Now that the direction I want to go. Wish me luck.
