Ive been taking Lamictal since Jan 15th. 2 weeks as of today. I took my first 50mgs this morning. Ive noticed I it was starting about anywhere from 2-5 days ago that my throat has been very very soar. To the point where its hard for me to eat and swallow.

My lips are also a bit chapped and I feel a bit dehydrated.

I drank about a week ago. Which could of played a roll. No hangover what so ever.

Im also on 0.5mg of Klonopin at night, and half of that in the morning.

I also noticed that my erections havent been as strong. That could becuase of the Klon's. It was slowly getting weaker over the two weeks.

My questions:
Will these side effects ware off over time?

When I come off the Klons will my erections go back to normal?

When the dose is upped to 100-125mg(what the doc wants me on),how much of a difference will the side effects be?

I was reading lamictal can also cause a swollen gland in your throat, its rare, but could this be that start of it?

Thanks

NYBP

To add I also smoke over a pack of cigarettes in a day. Maybe thats counter acting with the lamictal to cause the soar throat?

NYBP with lamictal and lithium I found I needed to drink quite a bit of water. I had always drank a lot of water and had to increase it after being put on lithium which was then switched to lamictal. When I first had my lamictal increased from 200 to 300 mg I was so thirsty that my throat became sore and it was difficult to swallow. I no longer have this side effect, but I make sure I stay hydrated.

My thoughts on meds is let your pdoc know any side effects etc. that you're having, but try and give a med at least 3 months before you decide if the med is working and/or the side effects etc. aren't worth it. My experience has been that after about 3-6 months the side effects went away or I no longer noticed them.

Also just started on Lamictal. I noticed a dry throat too.
And aggression!?!?
My fuse is so short right now, I am irritated with everyone and everything.
I know it will pass, and have talked to my pdoc.
The worst thing is that I had dreams last night that I was chasing my son in a rage because he did not want to go to bed. I wanted to spank his butt so hard!
I woke up in a panic, but luckily it was all a nightmare.
I am lucky to have a good support system, so no worries for my son guys!
Crying a bit more too, that's not such a bad thing I guess. But I was at a B-Day party today and my eyes welled up with tears when my bro came up and gave me a hug hello. I did not want to let him go. He just got all uncomfortable and told me to get some fresh air.
That's about it, not sexually active right now so not sure if it is affecting me that way? Any ladies out there know how/ or if it has any impact? I know many do???
Sorry for the long post, thanks for listening all

I recently had to go off Lamictal because I was having swollen glands in my throat and beginning in other places like the fold of my elbows and knees. I also had terrible body ached and joint pains. I am going to debrief with my p-doc at out next appointment and try to decide what to do, because it was starting to work on my moods. It was my second try with Lamictal.

I suppose any med you take can have an effect of your libido. That's something to ask your doctor about.

By the way, as I was coming off of it, I had some headaches and one day where I was all tied up in knots and couldn't think. It was the weirdest thing I ever felt. I also had really weird vivid and lifelike dreams. In fact, I recently told my husband that a local theater company had emailed me to let me know about auditions for Pirates of Penzance, but when I got the real newsletter in my inbox, the auditions were for Sweeny Todd. I am actually having a hard time distinguishing the difference between my dreams and reality, still.

I hope Lamictal works for you.

Im having no headachs, no swollen anything else besides throat, really dont need to drink to much water, im okay. Just my major thing is loss of appitate.

I also forgot to mention when I wake up, im getting the chills and im sweating a little bit.
Maybe I could just be getting sick?

Or my bodys getting used to the lamictal right now?

Body does not ach a all. I work out 3x a week, HEAVY, and worked construction for 2 days straight, just simple soreness from the work.

Im only on 25mg for the past 2 weeks and 50 for 1 day, so honestly its just to early to tell right now.

Lamictal takes quite a while to get used to. You gotta slowly ramp up, over the course of months to get to your target dose safely. Even when you get to your target dose, I'd say it takes up to another month for your system to adjust. It has been the best drug for me by far. I stay pretty level most of the time now.

The only drug to ever mess with my member was wellbutrin. And it took a long time to get back to normal after I stopped taking it. I think any of these drugs can do that though.

Anyway, my advice would be to give it some more time, unless of course something serious happens.

Best of luck!

I'm trying to illustrate a point, the point is that just because one medication causes issues doesn't mean anther one even in the same drug class will. So, your welcome.

Does the doctor think it's Stevens-Johnson syndrome? Hope you're feeling better soon.

Did they call this strep throat? That's what it sounds like, and a rash with it is not uncommon.

The rash spread to the rest of my body, on my feet, back, hands, arms..Im gonig to the doctor in a half an hour. They didnt test for strep..It would of taken then antoher 2 hrs, i said **** it and left bc i was feeling better from the IV...Man I was wrong lol.

Ive had strep before and ive never had a rash, had a fever never had a rash..This has to be an allergic reaction to the lamictal. i have no doubt in my mind

I jsut looked up strep throat rash, and it looks very similar to my rashes..This makes no sense, how come its happening now? Ive had strep before and no problems. Maybe bc the lamictal lowered my immune system?

Sometimes you get the rash and sometimes you don't. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Are you on antibiotics?
