I thought I was awake (I am in bed with a migraine today). I could hear my kids downstairs, and my husband down stairs. I heard my husband say "OK, Bye." as he went out the door to go to work. Then my kids came upstairs and they were asking me for a snack. I was asking my oldest how the youngest got home from preschool, and he wouldn't answer me. Then I felt someone holding me down. It was my oldest and my youngest climbing on me. I told them to get up because I couldn't breathe. They were asking for snacks. I told them that I couldn't get a snack if they wouldn't get off of me. I heard someone outside yelling about something, and I woke up to my kids climbing on me and asking for snacks. I was still confused about why the youngest was home before it was time for me to go get him from preschool. I figured I was pretty out of it from the migraine and maybe my husband just let him stay home today. Then I woke up again to the person yelling outside. Then I woke up again. My house is empty because the reality is that my husband went to work, my youngest is in preschool and my oldest was picked up this morning by his dad so that he could browse the book fair while his dad went to the parent teacher conference that I can't go to because of the migraine.

I know it was just sleep paralysis with dreaming, but it was so real. I was so involved. I could feel, hear, see, smell, everything. I have had this before but never to this extent where there were so many layers to wake up from and usually I am passively watching something rather than being involved.

Scary.

It sounds like you had a 'lucid dream'. I started getting these kind of dreams a year ago. In fact I had several of them last night. They are very realistic and you can think actively in them. I hope you feel better soon.

My headache is better because sometime this morning I think I went and got tylenol, though I hardly remember it. I hate migraines because no only are they painful, but I feel messed up and confused during them.

I am so out of it right now. I don't remember what was real and what wasn't.

I am so anxious, in the pit of my stomach.

BNLsMOM! Hope your anxiety abates soon.
While I've not experienced sleep paralysis personally, I've read about others' experiences and they reported that it felt very real and very unsettling too. Migraines (have those) can make things very confusing as well, so put together seems very likely to have increased how it played out for you. So sorry they seem to have teamed up on you...

I also get migraines - I'm sorry you had one today.

i had something like that happen to me a few years ago - in bed, thought I was awake, convinced someone was coming in my apartment, but I couldn't get up, couldn't get out of bed....was trying to get up trying to scream....i'd actually forgotten all about it till I read your post....it's very scary and I remember telling my therapist about it.

Migraines suck. I've had them for over 30 years, however, the lucid dreams that migraines and Vicoden gave me were sometimes almost (but not quite) worth the pain.

You anxiety will pass. Good luck, and hang in there.

I get a few really bad migraines each year. Usually when the weather changes. Here in the northeast US we went from really gold to really warm within a couple of days so I am not surprised I got a migraine.

I talked to my T about the whole experience and he said that it is probably not anything pathological, but can certainly be scary and often the themes and emotions in the dreams mirror emotions and things that I am working out in real life. Makes sense since I am working on feelings of being trapped while in therapy and my dream involved my kids holding me down so hard that I couldn't breathe.

T also instructed me to not forget that I have Seroquel available on an as needed basis for the really bad days and that I should probably take that extra dose every day for a few weeks until I am no longer having all these thoughts racing through my head.

Thank you for posting this!
I have had similar experiences. The one that scared me the most was I dreamed I had overdosed. (Not even sure where the idea came from?)
I kept having the intense sensation that I needed to get up. I was paralyzed in bed. My bed felt like it was a waterbed as long as I was moving in the waves it was ok, every time I noticed I was not moving though I had to make the waves start again. Eventually that was not enough and I knew I must get out of bed I would pull together all my strength to roll out of bed and feel the security of the floor, only to realize that I was still in bed. I can't say how long this went on, but it felt like an eternity then I woke up in the morning and everything was fine.
It was so strange. This phenomenon only manifested itself to me in the last year or so. Although I do remember it happening to me one time as a child, I was awake, but could not move.
Does anyone know how to wake up from this when it is happening?
