Well im 16 years old. Im going to be 17 on May 5th. I have really bad anger problems. When i get mad i just go on a rage and i get mad about the smallest things. I blew up on my girlfriends cousin a couple of nights ago and called her alot of hurtful names for no reason what so ever. I realize that i have very bad anger problems but anger management or therapy will NOT help me. I asked my mom to make me a doctors appointment to go get this checked on, but she just says that i can control it on my own, but i CANT! What should i do? Because i truely and honestly think i need to be put on medication, even my girlfriend of 1 year says that i should be on some meds. What should i do????

Have you made an appointment to see a psychiatrist yet? If not, you really should. The flashes of anger are part of the bipolar, it's agitation, I think, from being really overwhelmed. I get it too and am horrified by it. The fact that I am so repulsed by my behavior stops me just a little bit the next time, a little bit more the time after that and now I really can stop it sometimes and stay in the moment and be calm. I just don't let myself forget that I can get like that and remind myself how much I do not want to be that scary person that says horrible things I don't even mean and or/ possibly gets physical with another person. It helps me hold on to myself when I feel my anger flare, I think of the consequence too...Hope this helps you somewhat, Good Luck

I'd suggest speaking to a therapist and trying to get to the bottom of it. A therapist can pretty much diagnose Bipolar or any other mental illness. But they will be able to work with you a lot more intensively to understand your circumstances and symptoms.
I think it would be jumping the gun to assume you need meds if anger is your only symptom.
You are going through your teenage years. Going from childhood to adulthood. It is a frustrating time as you try find yourself and stand up for what you believe and stand for. I think your anger 'issue' is quite common for someone your age.
I am really not against meds, but in your circumstance, I'd recommend looking at all other avenues first

I'd be careful in saying that any therapist can diagnose a mental disorder. It reall depends on his or her education level.

That said, anger issues do not a bipolar make. But it is part of bipolar sometimes. You can control it to an extent by avoiding situations that might set you off. You can also try relaxation exercises.

Why do you say anger management won't help? It is a program that helps to give you tools to handle your anger. Meds are not a magic bullet.
