I tried taking seroquel but it made me overly tired and hungry all the time. It did not help my mood at all, just made me gain weight. I wanted to know what medications others have tried for their mood disorders. I get upset and angry at the drop of a dime and my reaction to any emotion is crying.. I need a medication to help me with these reactions.
Thanks for this!

everyone is different and it may take u a couple of meds to find the right one for u that works...my med doc is always throwin something diffrent at me~!

doxipine,adderal,depekote,celexa,xzanax(3 times a day) zyprexa,epital,invega.....

just try to stay on schedule and take ur meds like ur supposed to...u could start a med journal...so when u go to ur med appointments u can look back and tell her exactly what occured while u were taking the meds

hope that helps

Sodium Valproate (Epilim Chrono - I specify because apparently they can have slightly different effects!)
It's working really well, no sleepiness (opposed to Seroquel which was a bit of a nightmare.)
My pdoc said it is usually more effective for people who rapid cycle or have more irregular mood swings in general and/or irritability. I would definitely recommend talking about it with your pdoc, although there is a severe down side of not being allowed to get pregnant while on it as it can cause severe problems to the child.

Ohh...And I have already put on weight It's been only a month though, ask me a bit later and I'll let you know if this side effect went away as it is supposed to do or not

Lamictin and Wellbutrin for me.

I've been on SSRI's and Sodium Valporate too; but they didn't work for me.
I take Klonopin when needed (probably would have been a good idea this morning, lol)

Lamictal-for mood- it has helped me greatly.
Zoloft-for depression and panic disorder-has helped so far, tho it makes me a lil hypomanic.
Ativan-for anxiety-works quickly and efficiently.
Trazadone-for sleep. Not working.

Meds I've tried.
seroquel, welbutrin, xanax, klonopin, hydroxizine, abilify, lithium, haldol, adderal
Probably more but that's all I can remember now.

I'm on seroquel, the extended release version, and lamactil as a mood stabiliser. There are days when I am so exhausted I can barely keep my eyes open. But that mightn't be seroquel, I don't know. The pyschosis, and humungous depression has got better.

I currently take Lithium, Lamictal, Propanolol (for tremors from the Lithium) and Temazepam (sleep aid). I've taken a bunch of other meds such as Seroquel, Zyprexa and Geodon but they made me sleepy and/or didn't keep me from escalating into a bad manic attack. My doc did add Abilify to the above mix when I had a very bad anxiety attack but I had two side effects, cognitive clouding and memory loss and I went off of the Abilify. I do have an emergency pack of Abilify that my pdoc does want me to take if I get super manic so I guess we will cross the side effect bridge again if we get to it. Anything I can do to keep me out of the hospital again I will do.

TRIGGER ALERT!!!!

DXED 25 years ago--LOVED lithium but had to get off it within 3 mos. due to kidney malfunction (do have some kidney damage from that short period on it). Depakote helped w/agitation but not depression (was in a mixed episode) so got off it. Tried Geodon (fell asleep while driving & had acute dizziness-only lasted 4 days on it as falling asleep while driving & having to lie down on the floor at work {& work in the public!} due to dizziness is not exactly a good quality of life). Was on Abilify for 20+ years (started on it when it was supposedly "weight neutral"--now says weight gain & metabolic syndrome are side effects which I have--gained 50+ lbs. & on meds for blood pressure & cholesterol & blood sugar too high). BUT it did help tremendously w/paranoia & get me on track as far as thinking so I could benefit from therapy (DBT specifically so I could get off Abilify when my thinking was clear).

Also for last 25 yrs.: Provigil (for excessive daytime sleepiness; EMDR helped a lot for insomnia until I started having major pain issues; had sleep study & don't have sleep apnea but severe insomnia & interrupted sleep even before pain stuff started); Concerta (ADHD); Xanax (until I had a relapse of hypo mania for about 5 mos. & then crashed into a depression despite being "medication compliant" & ODed on Xanax & wine & ended up in the ER so changed to Klonopin for anxiety--mostly take low dose at night, rarely during the day as it makes me sleepy); Trazodone for sleep; Lamictal for mood stabilization; Wellbutrin one winter--now use a full-spectrum light for SAD & off Wellbutrin...

After OD & insomnia was really bad pdoc wanted me to take Seroquel but I refused due to already gaining so much weight on Abilify.

When I finally got well enough to benefit from it DBT & indiv. therapy have been my "medications", too.

Also took numerous classes from NAMI (Peer-to-Peer, IMR, WRAP)...

My mother had schizo affective & did not fare well. I've been ill severely since 15 (57 now) but just keep working at it. Married 37 years to high school sweetheart & have 2 wonderful grown children (who have had issues w/severe depression but are well & functioning at a very high professional level; I'm a college drop-out).

Just have to learn what your triggers are & how to deal w/your individual symptoms. Good luck to all...
