Hi,
I already went through one pregnancy when I was in a remission of sorts. I didn't even think about BP then. I had a bad manic/mixed period in the fall and am now medicated and seeing a T and recovering. I am thinking about getting pregnant again and I am scared to go off my meds. I have been battling depression since October and feel like I am finally beating it. Does anybody know if there is any point in staying on the meds awhile longer hoping that it will balance me out before I go off. Or does it not matter cause when I go off it will be what it will be regardless of how long I was medicated? Does that make any sense? Anybody had to deal with this? |

I was diagnosed with depression at the age of 19, and diagnosed with BP in 2004 (I was 35). I had a lot of trouble with depression during pregnancy and postpartum and made it through all of that with the help of good meds. I have four children and no effects from the meds. Would you consider medication during pregnancy if needed?

There are meds that you can take while pregnant (Abilify)... can you talk with your doctor about options? Also some you can take after the first trimester.
My pdoc suggested that I wait until my mood is stable before I change meds to get pregnant.

Seroquel is also a good one for pregnancy. but it's ultimately between you and the doctors involved. Each situation is unique.
www.womensmentalhealth.org is a great place to go.

I just really want to be off meds for the pregnancy. I think I have a fairly mild case.
