Just because it's not intentional doesn't mean it's still not annoying. YES! I found it

Luke, who said you are Bi-polar? Hope this wasn't a self-diagnosis. YES! I found it

Luke, Sept makes a good point... but if you did take an online quiz, it's a good starting point for a meeting with your school counselor.

You still need a proper diagnosis from the dr though. You're 13, you should consider that how you feel can also be caused by growing up...

ouch. Luke, I don't think she quite meant it that way, but I'm sorry you got your feelings hurt. However, one rule here is no name-calling.

Are you going to see a doctor or therapist? Are your parents understanding about it?

I'm not so much older than you... I'm 20. But I still think you shouldn't be so certain that it's bipolar without seeing a dr about it. Many teens have mood swings. How am I supposed to know if you're any different if you never go to the dr to see?

You can call me dumb if you want, but I back everyone else here. You NEED to see a doctor before you just assume you have ANYTHING. I'm sure you are having some major problems, and I'm not doubting that... nor am I (or anyone else) treating you like you are 4. We are just giving you advice that you can choose to take or not. Plus, if you GIVE respect on this site... you'll get it back in return no matter what your age.

So now that you've diagnosed yourself, what are you going to do? Keep going without treatment and tell everyone you can act the way you do because you've diagnosed yourself bipolar?
YES! I found it

If you want treatment, you need to see a doctor. I think that's all anyone is trying to say.

Bravo MP Bravo!!!!!!!

Luke,

I understand that being a teenager is hard enough in itself without having a chemical imbalance in your brain to compound the issue. However, YOU can not go around thinking you have depression, Bipolar, eating disorders, or a drug/drinking problem just because you think you MIGHT have such disorders.

It take a trained professional to make the dx, what ever it may be.

I also agree, that on this site, we respect eachother. WE help eachother get through our difficult times. You shouldnt go around snapping at people who are just trying to offer advice that they seem appropriate.

Part of growing up is knowing when to take advice or when to leave it.

If you look at symptoms of other mental illnesses and personality disorders, you will see that many of them, almost all of them really, have symptoms that overlap. It is really easy to see a list and think the category applies to oneself. (That's why the cheesy simplified horoscopes in the newspaper work... think your horoscope fits you "dead on?" try reading the others on the page with an open mind... pretend that they are your horoscope... you'll see that MOST of them "match" you to a T. Its something that the human brain just likes to do... find patterns and force matches. That's also why we see animals when we look at clouds...)

Anyway that's why you have to see a doctor for a true diagnosis. Only someone really trained and objective can determine a proper diagnosis, and often even that is very difficult.

But the most important part is what others have said... now that you suspect you are bipolar, what is the next step? The only reason for these "labels" is to help others figure out what types of treatment we need to become and stay well. For that you need a doctor, whether or not you believe that you need a dx from him, you do need his help in battling this illness.

Yep, this isn't a playground. Keep the sand in the box, not using it to kick in other people's faces.

I want to say something regarding incorrect diagnoses. Like Dexter said, a lot of disorders have overlapping symptoms. Case in point - I saw my prescribing psychiatrist tonight. He originally considered adult ADD, but said we would treat the depression first. During the recheck today, I said that while I was taking the Ambien he gave me to get a good night's sleep I could function so much better during the day. He said prolonged lack of sleep causes problems with memory and concentration, just like ADD, and if treating the insomnia with a sleeping pill helps as much as a stimulant for ADD would, then let's treat the insomnia.

You can't always be 100% sure that what the quiz answers say you have is correct. You might also overly inflate your symptoms while taking the quiz, so you get "diagnosed" with that disorder. A diagnosis isn't so you have an excuse to be a jerk to people, it's so you get the proper treatment.

Luke,
I believe everyone replied with good, advice and support.
No one is treating you like a child, that is your own perception. Many disorders and even general health related issues have many of the same symptoms, people should not "self-diagnose", but should see a mental health professional, even a general practitioner too, just to rule out if your symptoms are due to any underlying health problem.
I'd also appreciate if you would reply to us here without an attitude, after all you made the post, and it is natural that you will recieve replies. Many have here are supportive, and have been dealing with Bipolar disorder, we know what it is like. It is difficult but fortunately there is treatment, making things more bearable (sp?) once a DX has been properly made, through an evaluation by a psychiatrist.
I'd suggest you contact a mental health professional and /or your GP.

lukey,

I agree that you might have some issues. I don't question that. I'm sure you're anxious to know what they might be to feel better. However, was the screening test administered by a qualified doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist? If not, it's still considered self-diagnosis.

I hope you can talk with someone who can help you to feel better and know what specifically you might be dealing with, if anything, as far as mental illness.

I think others here just want to offer you support and seeking professional help to alleviate symptoms after a dianosis is fist made, is a great place to start. YES! I found it

Be safe!

I'm not sure where you took this screening test, but here at Psych Central, you'll notice that it has a caveat when reading the results:

Quote:
[b]The Psych Central bipolar screening test said:[b]
You should not take this as a diagnosis of any sort, or a recommendation for treatment. However, you may want to look into seeking further consultation with a trained mental health professional if you are experiencing any difficulties in daily functioning or if you'd like a more in-depth answer.

So you should not be certain, even if you did take a screening test online. Questions can be ambiguous and you're likely to get a far more accurate diagnosis from a qualified dr (... I would hope YES! I found it ...)
