I'm worried about my son. His moods are so extreme at the moment, and he has expressed some psychotic thoughts. I'm scared that he might be beginning to show symptoms of a mental illness. I'm speaking to the school nurse on Tuesday.

Awww man, my heart just sunk for you and your son.

I don't have any advise for you , sorry. I am going through something very similar with my youngest son and I am at a loss. It really scares the heck out of me, not to mention feeling guilty like I may have handed him my biggest burden. Which of course I know isn't a healthy way of looking at it.

Anyways just wanted to let you know you've got company with this. You said you're speaking to the school nurse, I haven't spoken to anyone yet, sitting here contemplating what to do. I've already thought about meds and if I'd want to go there, it's really unnerving. I hope your app. goes well.

Wishing you and your son the best with this.

I'm sorry to hear that your son is struggling right now. We're going to have my younger daughter evaluated for early-onset bipolar this summer, so I can understand a little about being afraid of what might be coming up. I'm not sure if this will be much of a consolation, but try to remember that if he is ultimately diagnosed with a mental illness, he will be one step ahead because he has you. You can help him learn to manage it. You know the questions to ask, the medicines, and how to work with the doctors. I'm wishing for the best for you and your son. Let us know how things go next week.

I agree 100% here. My daughter is showing signs to. She has manic episodes, and cleans my whole house at night....stays up with friends for days. She was crashed for a better part of this year. At least you know....and she wont have to grapple with it the way the rest of us did not knowing what it is. She is already on lamictal...but it's most likely time to look at this harder. Good luck. Be strong.
