I'd like to share a wonderful info. website and/or DBSA's phone number(s). This is a wonderful organization, that offers info. and support. The pdocs on their advisory board are well known, reputable doctors and researchers, who have contributed so much to the field of Psychiatry.
There are some mentioned at this website that already have written books, journals, and periodicals, many available to the general public.

DBSA's phone numbers:
(800) 826 - 3632 or (312) 642 - 0049

website: www.DBSAlliance.org

I hope this may be of help to anyone who visits our Bipolar and Depression forums.

Take care,
Rosanne

Thanks! I have just spent almost an hour just looking at the huge array of depression & bipolar subjects & reading. It is truly a very informative site. Some of their info is very different; one ex: The Face of Bipolar Illness, which is a survey of people with bp, asking them how it affects their lives; it was SO full of different info (very helpful to me as a family member but I think it would be to those with the disorder, also(?) Emerging Technologies was encouraging to read. It IS a great site for all kinds of info.

Noticed several newly DXed members have wanted to know somethings to help their loved ones understand what's going on with them and the Bipolar disorder.
Some of these pamphlets help. You can send for them or print out some info at that site.
My pdoc had pamphlets (BP kit) for patients and their loved ones to read, free in his waiting room.
It's an excellent organization, perhaps some of the stuff can help, along with other things.
Good luck

I also attend a monthly support group that DBSA sponsors. It is very helpful. You can locate one in your area on their web site.

I went to suport groups with DMDA for eyars. Isthis the same?

No groups for over an hour from me.

I want tostart one, but I'm way too troubled right now

Metaphorically speaking, can you pretend yoiu haveto pick me up and lead me blindfolded to some kind of help? Tell me something specific to do that I can figure out how to follow.

I think it's great that some can refer others to helpful and insightful new beginnings. We all are on a path, maybe not the right one but if we keep looking it will be found.

You are in AK??? Where do you find good docs, etc up here. My son and I are both in need! Our current doc isn't cutting it.

Hi, I'm new to the whole bipolar world as far as learning its root and its resolutions, because I was just diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. However, since I have been learning a bit more about it, I am coming to the realization that I have dealt with it my entire like, but only now it has a name, BIPOLAR. There, I said it. Anyway, since I the day that I found out, I have been obsessing over trying to find out more and search for ways to deal and support. I am anticipating a new support group next week, and a little nervous too.

Well, the whole reason for my posting, was not to write a novel about my life story, but rather to introduce myself. It is nice you meet you.

I want to add my agreement that this is a good website. The support groups and chapters can be very helpful. I attended one for awhile and gained insight into my anxieties at work and other feelings and behaviors.

Here's a book suggestion for your partner or family members to read:
Loving someone with bipolar disorder, Julie A. Fast, John D. Preston, Psy.D.
It is written for the partner or family member but it may also provide insight into relationships.
