Not having insurance SUCKS! I realized I was running low on my Abilify, so I called my clinic last week to get some more meds. They never called me back. I called to make an appointment with my psychiatrist because I really, REALLY need a freaking medication adjustment, and they cancelled it because my treatment plan needs to be updated and they can't let me see a doctor or give me more medication til it's updated. So I'm having to split my abilify to make it last until my appointment to update my plan, and I'm already barely hanging in there, even with a full dose of abilify! I wouldn't have to go through all this BS if I had insurance and saw a real psychiatrist instead of this state run sliding scale clinic. Just really frustrated and ticked off right now... anyone else have insurance problems?

Bristol-Myers Squibb has assistance programs for uninsured and those who cannot afford their medications. The assistance number is 1-888-922-4543 for those who need assistance with Abilify. I do not know if they can help, but it is worth a try!

Unfortunately, its through that program that I get my medications, and the clinic has to dispense the meds to me in order for me to get it. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I understand how frustrating this can be. It does suck without insurance and having to pay out of pocket. Abilify is a very expensive med.
I really hope you get things settled soon so you can feel better. I honestly do.

My heart goes out to you, I'm 18 and not living with my parents, but they do have me on their insurance, however, with the recession and all the benefits of the insurance have changed quite a bit and so until the $1500 deductible is met they won't pay anything on my appointments which are EXTREMELY expensive and my mom expects me to pay for everything on my own so I totally understand. I'm also really worried about when I turn 26 and have to get my own insurance because of pre-existing Bipolar Disorder, I'm not sure how I'll be affected. The government definitely needs to come up with a solution, because many people with Bipolar can't function normally without their Meds. Therefore have a hard time holding down a decent job without them which would put them even further in the hole since Meds are obviously very expensive and without a job they could definitely spiral out of control.

I feel for you, hun... I'm 19 & still not treated yet! I've basically been spinning out of control for the past 2 years, though I suspect I was bipolar WELL before that. I'm basically flat broke & waiting for my student loan to come in because I need to get an ID here in Puerto Rico so I can qualify for the government insurance programme so I can get treated, not only for my psychological b/s, but also get diagnosed & treated for my various physical problems... I went to a psych clinic that helped diagnose & medicate people that were in desperate financial need, but I kind of decided I didn't need it since I got over my depressive spell. Silly me. :/
I really hope you get this sorted out. If there's a will, there's a way! |

Thanks everyone for your responses. I called the clinic and told them I'm out of medication, they said there is nothing they can do til I go to my treatment plan update appointment, so I'm splitting the few pills I have and just trying to hang on til then. At least its this Friday and not any later, and I plan to demand to see my psychiatrist and get some samples, because by then I'll be completely out.
