Hi, can anyone tell me if you go into the E.R., what they do? I ran to my Dr. office a couple days ago, and they closed my case, because it was easier for me to have my GP prescribe my meds. It takes over a month to get back in program. I have sunk into a very deep depression, I sliced my stomach up 2 days ago, I haven't done that since I was 15. I'm 44. I'm doing very impulsive things, not good, but, when the thoughts come, I act out. I just got back to work, really want to keep my job, know I need quick help! Any suggestions? Right now I'm reaching out, later, I probably won't care. This mind of mine really sucks! Suicide is always at the top of my head, but, so is that's so wrong. Thanks for listening!

Oh, thanks, it wasn't my GP who closed my case, it was my Psych Dr.. I found it was cheaper to have my GP prescribe my meds. So, I haven't seen Psych Dr in around a yr.
Big mistake! My meds got changed to wellbutrin and cymbalta, I feel nothing but aggrivation, and the need to exit! Forgive me, I am not myself right now, usually, I'm the one everyone likes. Btw, I hate cancer too! I hope your OK, I really mean that! Do you think I could go in and get a referral and get right out? I'm trying to keep everything secret. Thank-you |

Yeah Cancer sux bigtime, but I am trying to do my best to move on although it is very difficult the next day after having a loved one or a pet die from it. If you tell them you are suicidal and they see that you have SI they may have the case manager court order you to a hospital. That is what happened to me. (If you can show that you are not going to harm yourself/you are safe they won't ask about hospitalization) Also you should ask to be on a mood stabilizer if you have bp. I was always under the notion that they only prescribe anti-d's with mood stabilizers if you are stable. Anti-d's can have undesirable effects on someone who has bp.

Is there an emergency mental health agency near you? It might be a good alternative to the ER. Some cities have walk-in hours and you can be evaluated on the spot.

If you go to the ER and are honest about your self-harm and suicidal thoughts you will probably be admitted to the psych ward but it could be voluntary. Going to the ER is a bit of a hassle. Here, they immediately put me in a consultation room but there is usually a long wait to see a doctor, breathelizer, urine test for drugs, change from your clothes to a gown, they take your belongings to be sure you don't have anything that you could hurt yourself with. Then there is usually a wait for a bed. I have been hospitalized many times and all but one time was positive.

Thanks everyone, I went back to GP today and he started me on Buspar? Anyways, I get to call back tomorrow and get an appointment with a Pdoc, I'm excited, seeing a light somewhere down the road! So now I'm on Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, and Buspar, with xanax as needed, which is a lot! He said that would change. This zooming one minute and darkness the next is awful. Thanks again!!
