This keeps happening to me and it feels like a new thing (although I can never be sure). I just literally 'zone out', get lost in my own thoughts and then 'come back' again. I wouldn't call it dissociating as such, as I'm still there in the room, with whoever it is I'm speaking/listening to, but... I don't know, it's hard to explain. I feel like my memory is terrible at the moment, I can't retain information properly and sometimes I just get 'lost' in the middle of talking to people - I literally have to stop, close my eyes and centre for a second before I can carry on speaking.

I feel a bit like there's so much going on in my head that something is deciding what to prioritise and what to switch off from - but it's not me actively controlling that.

Any thoughts?

I know that I will zone out to the point where people are telling me it took them a few tries to get my attention. I too get lost in my own thoughts and find it hard to pay attention to those things that are going on around me.

I don't zone out. I astral project. Even without really wanting to do so.

I have done this since I was a kid, so my lamictal hasn't made it much worse.
Used to sit outside or sit on the edge of my bed & two hours would go by without me realizing it & couldn't tell you what I was thinking about...
So, not a new thing for me & I thought it was normal then, who knew?

I do this too. Even while driving, but I manage to almost drive ok, based on my subconscience.
I stare into space without actially thinking of anything. My pdoc has suggested it may be ADHD, when combined with the memory issues, and concentration issues I have

I learned that doing it at family re-union tends to scare people as I leave my body there, with empty eyes and unable to answer to "so-when-are-you-getting-married?" questions.

it is something one has to learn and it is better to first do it under care of somebody who done it before and knows about this stuff... there are various methods. With years, I just relax the body and mind (I can zen very easily) and let my mind flow. Ability to deep relax is a must.
