I try to do the opposite of what I want to do. I make myself stay out of bed except bed time. I make myself socialize, work out, eat, shower, housework even tho I want no part in any of it. It does help. Or it's supposed to.
Thanks for this!

Mel with that funny little avatar I can't picture you depressed. Well sometimes you just have to ride it out...go with it.....realize its an emotion, a feeling.....if you start to fight it, refusing it...it gets worse it seems

Sometimes nothing makes it better....fake it till you make it sort of..I make sure I always get out of the house..always...even if I feel horrible....it helps for me to be around people even if I don't talk to anyone...now when I was really sick, people drove me crazy...so it depends how you are feeling with your depression. Sometimes its too much imput and I can't take it.

Music sometimes helps, a drive, the ocean or a body of water, the mountains, a park with no people and a quiet day about 70 degrees with a little wind...Animals help..I love them and being around them helps....like going to the animal shelter whatever.

When I am real depressed I cannot read as I can't focus so for me that would be defiantely out.

Mel its kinda up to you to find out what works. I have learned like I said above..sometimes you have to just ride it out...letting go and realize that it has an end and it won't last forever......realize its a feeling..a bad feeling but thats all it is. Getting upset about it creates again more anxiety, and its like a circle you can't get off of.....

Feel better..been there Mel!!

Hugs;
Dee

You should do something like go out for a walk or go to the store, or anything mentioned above. When you feel like you can't do it, write a list of things you can do tomorrow, make a plan.

If you can get yourself a little bit motivated my friend, try to go for a walk because exercise will put you in a better mood because it releases endorphins in your brain.

Also, if you have a little bit of extra money, go out and buy yourself something just for you that you really don't need because retail therapy is the best I find for depression.

Watch a funny movie, or a funny show on TV.

Stay away from the news on TV, newspapers, etc. because they will just trigger you.

Force yourself to take a shower because you will always feel better after it because you will feel nice and clean.

Force yourself to get out and do something by yourself or with a friend that you normally enjoy. I see by your photos that you probably have a horse. Can you force yourself to go riding today? That would be something you enjoy doing.

Good Luck Mel. I am thinking of you.

Some ideas:
Stay awake during the day and sleep at night - take meds to sleep if you need to, a good nights sleep is really important.
Get out of the bedroom/ house, have a shower and get dressed, exercise if you can
Journal to get those destructive thoughts out of your head
Try to find good things in the world around you and focus on them.
Write lists and take baby steps of what needs to be done - one thing at a time.

I agree with others that going for a walk helps. As much as we don't want to do it, sometimes you just have to force it.

Dear mel80, So sorry you are still so down. I know all this advice is for the best, but for me it is easier said than done. Def know what it's like to put off getting out of the bed just to pee or to be starving & don't feel you can make it to the kitchen. It does suck!!
Along with that you can't sleep cause your mind won't slow down.
So... motivation is a Hugh problem for me!
I know you have furry friends & they mean a lot to you. You say you can't drive right now but do you have a bicycle to get you at least to the grocer & anything else you really need? That might help. Do you have any close relatives or friends for support?
Just know you are not alone & you have many people on here that care about your health & want the best for you.
Take care of yourself.

Thank you to everyone for caring and offering their advice.I've had few days in ward for sleep nothing else but I'm happy to say that I'm off on a happy high tangent and today managed to get out and go swimming, take dogs for a really good walk, mow the lawns and begin weeding the gardens.I'm sure as heck hoping that I can stave off the depression I really don't do very well with it.Yummmm to the milkshakes but I love banana and I treated myself to a lovley kingsize bar of fairtrade cocao chocolate very rich but yummy.love and hugs to everyone out thwere for caring
