This is my first time here, and I am not quite sure if this is how to make my newbie introduction. I have been diagnosed with a mixed state of bipolar disorder well over six years ago, and I haven't been medicated for quite some time. The meds worked up to a point, but then it seemed to make me without a personality.

As I reflect upon my past decision to stop taking my meds, I am faced with today more heartache. In my soul, I know that I have to go back and find the appropriate treatment for me. The way I am now is affecting everything and everyone in my life---especially, the one person in my life who loves me. I can't rationally explain my actions when brought out by specific triggers to them. They understand me, but not the disease itself. What it does to me or us.

I am hoping that in here I will find some place to speak, understanding, and peace while I begin my journey once more to find a doctor and therapist.

This is a great place to be able to speak freely and find understanding. So glad you decided to take the steps to find a doc and therapist. It can be a hard thing to do. It is a hard road at times being bipolar and especially untreated. I think you are very brave to seek help and get things back on track. We are here for you. Very nice to meet you as well!!

Welcome! This site is great for support and for talking with people who know what you are going through. I have also been diagnosed bipolar 1 mixed states. The mixed episodes are awful. You're doing a good thing by trying to find treatment for yourself. I wish you much luck in that.

Hi Tamara!

I'm new myself (lurked for a few days then joined in about 3 weeks ago). I find the bipolar site very comforting because in my everyday life I only know one other BP person (my cousin) and she doesn't live nearby, though we call each other frequently. It's great to be able to connect to an entire community of people who share BP and go through similar struggles with depression, mania, hospitalizations, P-docs and meds...I find it very therapeutic and comforting. Hope you will as well.

Welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed Bipolar Mixed in 1997. I got on meds and the funny part is that once my symptoms went away(most) my doc then diagnosed me Bipolar II. I feel much better than I did way back then and have a great Pdoc that listens to me rather than just writing me prescriptions. I don't even need a therapist. Comming here and sharing with others is a great help for me. I hope it is for you too.

Hi Tamara,

I am new here too. I also came here specifically so I can get to know and talk to people who understand. I have a lot of really good friends, a couple of which know I have bipolar but none understand. I was diagnosed in '88 or there about. I am hoping to get to the chat this week. I am not altogether sure when it is though because one place says Friday and the other says Thursday.

Welcome to PC. I know that feeling of losing your personality because when I was on Seroquel XR, I lost my creativity, my personality and felt generally numb to everything around me and also everything inside of me.

There are meds. out there that you can find that do not give you that numb feeling. My pdoc took me off of Seroquel XR and put me on Abilify, increasing my dosage slowly until I was at the max. 30 mg. I have had a lot of manic breakthroughs, but generally it has made me feel stable a lot of the time.

However, it is not the only med. I am on. It took a long while to find the right med. cocktail, but you will find it. I PROMISE!!!

Good Luck and, again, welcome.
