Even if I didn't identify with this song before, the video sealed the deal for me, but I find the lyrics very resonant also. Especially:

"do I stress you out, my sweater is on backwards and inside out"
"I don't want to dissect everything today... but I can't help it"
"It would knock me to the floor if I wasn't there already"
"All I really want... is a way to calm the angry voice"
"do I wear you out, you must wonder why I'm relentless and all strung out"
"I'm consumed by the chill of solitary"
"Enough about me, let's talk about you for a minute, enough about you, let's talk about life for a while"
"All I need now is intellectual intercourse, a soul to dig the hole much deeper"
"I have no concept of time other than it is flying"

I have a whole 'scrapbook' full of lyrics I can relate to. Sometimes my interpretation of a song is different from the artist's original intention, or when they don't quite fit my situation, I just modify them slightly ;-) Alanis features quite heavily in there, as do Evanescence. I always find the song "Going Under", for me, is about 'drowning' in the chaos that is my mind. There are a lot of songs that the "you" I see as that part of me that I can't control.

I LOVE Evanescence "Going Under"!!!!! Music is my therapy. I walk around with my ear phones in listening to Pandora as loud as my Iphone will go. It helps keep me distracted from intrusive thoughts

Wow. This is a perfect example of a lyric I know... "You sing the words but still don't know what it means" And I don't mean this towards you, I mean it towards myself. I have NEVER picked up on this before. And I usually dissect every song I sing along to and apply it to myself or others. The good thing is, now I can reflect upon the meaning of the song instead of the memories of my exgf and I dancing to them, naked hehehe

I had a friend over last night and we were in deep conversation till gone 3 this morning about the mind, religion, faith and spirituality, and... the power of music and lyrics. And so we ended up playing each other certain songs that were particularly meaningful to us. I think a song will mean something different to every person. Example: he played me a song called "Handlebars" by Flobot (loved it, by the way!) - he likes it because to him it's that childlike feeling ("I can ride my bike with no handlebars") of achieving something and feeling like you can do anything (eg "I can hit a target through a telescope"). My first reaction to it was that it was somebody's experience of mania, and delusions of grandeur, being able to save or end the world, etc. I think both of our interpretations fit, despite being different.
