I used to be on Depakote that did nothing for BP, caused severe weight gain, messed up bloodwork BUT completely erased my migraines. I was taken off Depakote, but now with my primary doctor we are considering restarting it on a low dose sufficient to prevent migraines, as migraines have gotten the better of me recently. 3 attacks per week, not good. Depakote is FDA approved for migraine prevention and the dosage for that purpose is lower than for BP.
So my question is for people who are on full Bipolar doses: did you notice new side effects are you titrated up? Say weight gain started after a certain dose only? Thanks. |

I honestly am not sure. I'm currently at 1000mg and I've actually noticed a decrease in my appetite, not the other way around. I've had to set an alarm on my phone to remind myself I should be finding a meal, otherwise I'll get an upset stomach when I take meds later. I'll let you know if I notice a change at all.

I am on 1000mg of depakote. Iremember feeling dizzy and off balance within the first couple of weeks. I don't know if it caused weight gain because I was on Seroquel as well, but it probably contributed.
