Well never made it home from work today. Didnt leave til after 10am after getting to work at 3:30pm and being up since 9am yesterday.

Slept on the side of the road for a few hours then turned around and headed back into town for a bite to eat and a couple drinks before heading back here to the mines.

In other words, tonight's gonna be a rough one. So lets get the chatter goin and burnin strong through the night.

Hope everyone is doing well

Do you have coffee where you work? That is how I made it through many night shifts when I didn't get sufficient sleep. Pepsi Max has a lot of caffeine too.

Got all the coffee and soda I can drink. And I'm allowed to nap as long as I can wake up to the phone or door buzzer when someone wants in. Done it on far less sleep. Just I've been getting more sleep lately. Didnt take meds either today cause I never really went to sleep.

It was soo much easier when they let me sleep over here at work. went off the clock, took meds, slept in a cot upstairs, got a shower, went back on the clock. perfect.

Now I havent slept for more than a few hours in naps. havent showered in at least 3 days, have no money from having to commute the hour 1-way to work. ugh everything is ****ed up again. I mean, how to they expect me to function when I'm up for 25 hours and worked 18 of them? taking advantage of me I beleive, but hey, more money for me.

On the bright side, as of this week I'm a full-time company salary employee= full benefits 401K vacation and a $3/hour pay increase. so hopefully by the end of the month things will be balanced out.

Just need to get some proof of insurance from them so I dont have to pay out of pocket for my pdoc appt. on monday. just turned in my benefits stuff yesterday so hopefully it all went through. gotta hit up HR tomorrow morning to see what's up

hehe After the **** I went through this past winter and my major goals not to go back there or back to the hospital, i've decided to be proactive. Did that NAMI Walk 5-k, actually told my pdoc some of the truth the last time. Now I pumped to get the rest of it off my chest and maybe start doing this the "right" way.

I know he's gonna be disappointed that i completely dismissed his plea that I rid alcohol from my life, but hey you only live once and when you got dx'd a clinical alcoholic with your bp dx, its sorta hard to give it up.

Any idea how boring the stories about my weekends would be if i quit the bottle? LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMME! hahaha maybe someday

Will they no longer let you sleep between shifts at work? When I worked 24 hour shift (the maximum the hospital would allow without a 4 hour break) I slept on a couch beside the ICU and one of the nurses would wake me up when my 4 hour nap was over.

Now that you are union are you paid OT or are you a salary employee? I used to be an OT hog for 3 weeks in the month and the last week I only worked 2 12-hour shifts and then had 5-7 days off. I think your 4 on, 4 off sounds pretty good too.

Nope, no more sleeping over. I'm company salary. the miner's are union. the warehouse personell and bosses/foreman and administrators are all company. The company frowns upon excessive overtime because they already have to pay the union workers rather high wages. A "new miner" general laborer in the union makes almost $23/hr. I make $18

Right, we sure won't put up with any boring weekend stories! :roll eyes: And you're way too young, besides, to quit drinking. I was up to a quarter gal of scotch a day plus a couple 6-pks brown ale before I quit at 35.

So how's it going? Busy around there tonight?

ah, I see.

yeah coal mining is the best paying job in many areas of WV. I didn't realize the difference in union and company assignments. I live just outside of Charleston where there are many more options for employment.

Do you plan on staying in your current position for awhile or do you want other?

The goal, however, is to make it over to the Maintenance Foreman Trainee Program. If I get in that program I'll be making around $30/hour and with regular overtime average $90,000 per year. 5 years become a certified foreman. Some of those here that work a double shift each day they work (12 on- 2off) and make $160-$180k a year!! That would be awesome dont ya think? under 30 years old and making $150k a year. I could live with that lol

In college I drank a 30 pack of beer and half a bottle of whiskey and slept 2 hours max per night, every night, for a month straight. The end result? pER lol

And lived to tell about it no doubt!
So what's it take to get into that Maintenance Foreman Trainee Program? & when will you be eligible?

Good Evening!
So if you work where you're at now for 4-6 more months you have a chance to get in the maintenance trainee program?
Sorry about no sleep today.

That's a good possibility. And it will be here for the same company at the same mine, just a promotion of sorts. Instead of in the warehouse, leading a crew of men underground

Sounds good, but if you're gonna get that promotion, better be careful whose roadside you sleep on in future ...

...so normally I would be in bed but I've felt sluggish and exhausted all day long, about an hour ago I was suddenly wide awake. I am not quite wanting to let that alert feeling go yet. Hi everyone, hope your night is going well.

Anika, I'm sorry you're sick and I hope you get better soon. Flu is no fun.
