so do i. i'd really like to get a nice buck before the out-of-towners come in for gun season. I have to work the first 2 nights, tho im gonna get out of here as soon as possible and get to the fields. maybe catch some deer moving when the other guys are coming off their stands cuz they're too hungry or cold.

I wish someone in my family would get a deer... And give me some! I love venison and my husband won't eat most farm-raised meats (ethics), but he says it's OK and even responsible to eat wild game that are not being properly controlled by predators. But we don't hunt, so we rely on my hunting family members to give us a little gamey love once in awhile.

My mom was the only one of her siblings that didn't take a deer. Until I was like 7, and we got one with our '89 Caprice Estate Classic - totaled the car, coulda killed me and my folks if the deer jumped a second sooner. But my folks hauled that deer up on top of the damaged car and we took it right home, and while my dad was freaking out about what to do with a deer, my mom strung it up in the garage and gutted it! It was hilarious.
Thanks for this!

Where I used to live, a lot of deer got hit (and killed or the next part won't make sense! ). You could call the local food bank, and the manager (? guess you'd call it) would come out any hour to collect it to supplement the food bank. I thought that was most excellent of them.
Thanks for this!

I wonder if our area donates roadkill to the food bank?

A lot of state now have programs where hunters who don't eat the meat or shoot more than their freezer can hold, can donate to food banks. In PA its called "Hunters Sharing The Harvest"
