HI! Can anyone help me? Thur. I have Pdoc appt., and she was talking about putting me on Abilify, instead of Zyprexa. Zyprexa is $80. a month, kind of high, not sure how much Abilify is? BUT.... I am terrified of changing meds, because, I am doing quite well. I think I need a little adjustment, maybe, but doing well for the most part. Has anyone been through this med change?

I've been through lots of med changes and adjustments and tweaking the meds is not unusual so maybe you should not be terrified. You can ask her why she recommends the change and if you don't agree with her conclusions you can ask to remain on your current meds. I always advocate for people to be proactive in their care.
Thanks for this!

I switched from zyprexa to abilify due to weight gain. And I have to say, at least for me zyprexa worked better. I believe zyprexa is stronger judging from my expeirience. If it were not for weight gain I would have stayed on it. Abilify does nothing for me sleep wise and as far as psychosis or delusional thinking abilify isn't working as well.

Why does she want you to switch?

She was talking about switching because of cost, I prefer to keep the delusions away! I'm very afraid of the thoughts I was having. I keep a journal, and the difference is amazing. Thanks so much for your input!

I started zyprexa a month ago and I'll find out what my weight gain is in a few days. Not bad, I think, but I'm doing judo 3x a week. I took Abilify and within 2 or 3 days i had tardiv dyskinesia so I had to be taken off.

Abilify is extremely expensive. For 30 tablets of 10 milligrams, the straight cost is $638.99. (Luckily I'm on medicaid, so it is covered 100%, but not all are as lucky) you could always call your pharmacy and ask them how much it would be with your insurance. Or you could call your insurance company and ask them the same. I've done that before when I had a paid for insurance.

Zyprexa for me in Canada was almost $400 a month. I cant recall what abilify was, tho I know it was a bit cheaper. It's absolutey ridiculous!!
