The more I read about this disorder the more alarmed I am. I am certain my mother was BP. When I was a kid she attempted suicide. I also have a sister that was diagnosed as BP but she chooses to treat with alcohol and drugs.
There was a few months when I was scared to death to be in my living room. I was sure it was bugged or had a camera hidden somewhere. Of course I knew this was not reasonable to think this. I coped with it, by never going in there and spending most of my time outside and blew it off to being stress. I also didn't sleep much during this time. Obviously this was a psychotic time and I didn't know better. Is this common with BP? |

Psychosis can be common with bipolar I. I'm not exactly sure how delusions fit into a bipolar II diagnosis, as I have bipolar I. One thIng I have learned over the years is that there really is no hard and fast rules to ones experience regarding bipolar.
Psychotic symptoms can be scary. But they can be medicated and you can learn some tools to cope. |

you can get psychotic/mildly psychotic with bipolar. My pdoc believes bipolar is bipolar and doesn't care about I, II, III etc. I went through a period of paranoia that all bathrooms had cameras... they didn't! i checked! I chose not to use antipsychotics because i knew i was just being paranoid and irrational and took comfort in that, same with hallucination type stuff - i knew they weren't real, not true hallucinations, i didn't believe them and they didn't cause me to completely withdraw. they went away.
however, knowing my brain was out of control was terrifying and i feared for my life, that i would do something stupid. ended up checking myself into an outpatient psych program for three weeks to just help learn to manage. going on six months psychosis free!

Thanks! It helps to know that it is part of it. I am a pretty tough person and try to stay grounded. But being single and alone a great deal of the time makes it tough to do that sometimes.
I am so glad I found this site. You all are a big help in that area. ![]()
