not lose my temper with my kids right now. My oldest loses ALL volume control when she gets tired and she is being so loud I am about ready to totally lose it. My middle one turns into a major whiner and tantrum thrower. I was fine and then I started cycling big time about an hour ago. My husband is at a dinner provided by his supervisor (since it's only the guys who work in the shop--he's a broadcast engineer--we suspect there is an alterior motive there since he's pissed off at them) so I'm getting zero relief. I'm also trying to keep them up until he gets home, which may not be until 10.

I am not a slapper or hitter but I can be a yeller and I am about to that point. I don't like being that way. I could take an Ativan but I really don't want to take it at any time other than at night. My psych doc said to take one if I need to in order to help control anxiety but I try to avoid it.

I just have to hang in there another hour until their bedtime. Anybody can do anything for just an hour, right?

Just try to breathe dear. Do something to cancel out the noise. Headphones even if you have them. Go into the next room if at all possible. Have some comfort food if you have one.

I feel your pain. My roomate recently had his gf move in with us and she has a 6 year old daughter that is very loud and whining. The family situation has created a complete lack of discipline. And I have to try to sleep over this. The worst part is I dont even have the place to yell or tell her she needs to be quite and mommy wont. so i have to seclude myself and crank the music channel on the TV to get some rest. Just walking away even works for me sometimes.

Anything you can think of to avoid an explosion would be best. Good luck

Becca, is there any fun project you can set them to doing? You've got what--2 hrs? Can you let them make cookies?

Alternatively, manicminer's headphone idea (if you have them & the kids would leave you alone) is great. Envision an all-white room & lose yourself in it. hold a mental candle in your mind & watch the flame. Count to a million. Play games on PC. Stay online with manicminer & whomever's hanging out there!

Any of these work for you?

They decided to get into their closet and pretend like they were traveling to Egypt to find mummies, LOL. After that they watched "Amazing World of Gumball" and "Adventure Time". I managed to keep my cool, too.
