Got back from Vegas, and my observations have been that Vegas on Lithium is not nearly as fun as Vegas on hypomania. I usually go down there and have the best time, and this time it was stunted, and I wasn't having the fun I used to.
No midnight champagne parties, no talking to people in the elevator, no gambling with people and partying.
Should we take meds to bring up the lows if they are going to knock out the highs?

I am not sure of the answer to your question, but I wanted to say that your post title would make a great book title. If you ever write your life story, that would an awesome title to use.
Thanks for this!

I have a friend who has like solid six month cycles of either mania or bipolar. Her boyfriend and I figured out that a mania cycle was triggered by a trip to vegas. I loooove Vegas, so I pretty much go in realizing that I am going to have a minor manic episode (Lamictal works well but gives me little bumps and lows) and have strategies in advance for how I'm not going to lose a ridiculous amount of money.

Never been to Vegas, but if I go, I wanna be hypomaniac on constrained budget (c'mon, there are such things as limits on your credit card. Mine is set pretty low (I can go to bank when i really need to, but when manicky, I am kinda incapable of the act. Institutions make me always paranoid... and especially when in extreme moods).

i made a pretty big dumb mistake last time in vegas, involving a client and i crossed the professional line. i was newly on lamectal at the time so it had not yet killed my libido. i think lithium and a chastity belt would have helped me not regret that trip to vegas.

Vegas on Lithium where the neon shines not so bright.

Almost all travel makes me hypomanic. It's a lot less fun when sleeping only a couple hours makes you tired instead of wired. My favorite, I think, was being hypomanic in Seattle, though it had more to do with the company I kept than the city I was in.

I travel a lot - flew about 43K miles in 2011 and spent over 100 days away from home, and there are several trips on the books for 2012 already. And I've actually cut back. I love to travel, but it's so hard on me in terms of mood swings.

i've been to vegas many times (bp2) and have been on lithium for over 30 yrs. vegas kicks my butt with the noise from the slots, or the loud, bright lights when seeing a show. we were there thanksgiving weekend to see david foster and friends. usually when i can't sleep, i take ambien..but for vegas, i must take stronger seroquel for sleep but this time seroquel failed...was up all nite and so manic. i hate and love that city but it takes days after returning to stabilize.
Thanks for this!

I have enjoyed the responses to my post!
It feels great to be understood for once in my life. I don't know what I used to do with out this BP forum. It's great to share. Don't need much of a filter!
Thanks for this!
