I am experiencing severe mood swings. One week I outlined a book I want to write, created a website and brochure for my Thai Massage business, finished my film for a film festival in Australia, the next week I was severely depressed. I started making suicide plans involving medication and plastic bags over my head. I had to call the crisis hotline twice and give my meds to a friend to keep for me. I am wondering if it is because I am taking painkillers for a cracked tooth until my oral surgery? I often have mood swings but they are usually more gradual. These mood swings happen fast from one extreme to the other. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm not sure if you saw this, but there's another current thread about this very same topic: http://forums.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=215521
I would call your pdoc and see what he/she thinks about it. They may be able to make a temporary med adjustment just to get you through the surgery until you're off the pain meds.

I've been wondering the same thing about painkillers. Just a few doses of lortab and I'm in a manic episode.

I am really sensitive to medication also. They either cause depression or mania or a whole host of other physical symptoms. So I have to be very aware of them and what I can take and not.
