So, I took one of these online quizzes @ OKCupid entitled "How emotionally detached are you?". I know it is just a silly quiz, & thought it was funny when I got the result Dangerously Unstable. That is until I got to the last line in the description: "You just wish things would magically change for the better...They probably won't though so you should get on with 'removing' yourself from the world." (emphasis mine)

WTF? I was talking to a friend & had linked her the results before reading them all the way through, then came back with "I think this quiz just told me to kill myself." When she finished reading her response was, "It totally did."

I was/am very angry. I reported the quiz, but that only seems to go into a queue for peer review, so I also sent a complaint via the contact submission form to OKCupid telling them all this & giving them the links, & how in my opinion as a former Social Worker the quiz results were "appalling & irresponsible". The quiz probably attracts a lot of people at emotionally vulnerable times & that poor choice of words, or ****** attempt at humor, could be just the nudge someone needs to do the deed.

That was just a couple of hours ago, so I haven't heard anything back yet, but I did tell them I would be keeping an eye on the situation & alerting MH/MI groups if it wasn't changed.

Okay, just needed to vent. I was just floored at the callousness of that result.

Looks like I got the same results you did. No one who knows me would believe it. I would not take it seriously. Just a suggestion. I think what did me in was saying that I would hesitate to kill insects and animals but not humans.
Thanks for this!

I don't take the quiz results personally, I think the fact that the quiz results would suggest that anyone kill themselves, even in a light hearted manner is irresponsible & dangerous.

Yeah, I got the same results. What strange questions. Probably would have the same results no matter what your answer is.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm feeling better, but it really gets my goose that someone would be so flippant about the idea of suicide. I wanted OKC to know what sort of dreck is on their site & creating a liability for them should it come to light someone did commit suicide after having taken that quiz.

I can't just see something like that & ignore it because it doesn't affect me.

I know you're right.

I've been suicidal, I know what hell that is but, I'm messed up in the head and find that crap can make me smile. It is sometimes a relief to make light of the worst of human experience and it is okcupid afterall.

I got the same result. Haha. I don't think it was an accurate test, though. It told me I was more extraverted than introverted...lies...

I agree that it was very irresponsible to put that last line in. I'm not currently depressed or suicidal, but if I had taken the test at a point when I was weaker I could see myself being very triggered by a message like that.

I think it was the depression question that got me, because I got the same answer the rest of you did.

They clearly don't expect those of us who take the test to talk with each other and compare notes.

The survey was apparently written by a troll. You did right to report it.

Good for you for not taking it personally and calling them out on their complete irresponsibility! I like to make light as much as the next person. Probably more. But there are limits.
You're right, there ARE going to be a lot of emotionally vulnerable people taking that "quiz". How could they not realize that?! And if they DID? There are many choice descriptors for people who have such disregard. Oh, where to begin?

I won't even go there (I've totally got a "thing" about anyone considering my "visit" as marketing success or sign of interest), but thanks for the heads up.
Keep us posted, ok?
Thanks for this!

hahaha! That's funny, I feel the same way, but don't want to tell anyone that. I have much more respect for a dog than a human.

That's messed up. I'd be pretty pissed. I would probably take it personally too. Even though it's unrealistic that they even know me, let alone think I would take the quiz.

The questions on that quiz are totally ridiculous. They also include misspellings and irrelevant items. It's just entertainment, stupid as it is. No one with any relationship to science of any kind had anything to do with that garbage.

By the way, it told me that "I'm Fine", which is not particularly accurate...
