National Institute of Mental Health website. I got a TON of great information about my bi-polar 1 & panic disorder.

You may view some info at the top of the threads.
Depression and Bipolar Alliance, which I got pamhlets from my pdoc's waiting room. His group thinks it is a good organization, might be worth looking at.
www.DBSAlliance.org

Lots of luck.

BTW
I am bipolar-II, was DXed in Oct 1999 after having a melt down. I'm on meds. that work well, took a few tries with other meds, but with working with my pdoc, we hit on one that suits me well.
I have an older brother who is bipolar-I, in my family's case, it's genetic. Never look at it as a life sentence, with meds and counseling, you can go onto to have a "normal" life.

Check out the "Disorders" link at the top of the page and follow it to "Bipolar". Also, go to the library and get some books on bipolar....there are lots of good ones. I have BP II, also. Since I'm only on library computers these days I'm a bit slow, but PM if you want, I'll get back sometime!

I thought of another link that was a great help to me when I was learning more about my diagnosis - The National Alliance on Mental Illness

http://www.nami.org/

They too have descriptions of various diagnoses, as well as links for area support groups, and information you can give to your loved ones to help them better understand your struggles.

Everyone has offered great suggestions, and I hope this link helps you out as well.
