Hi, I hope I'm spelling that right. Can anyone give me any info on this med? Side effects, etc. My doc is switching me from Geodon to Zyprexa. Geodon puts me in a mini coma as I like to call it.
Thanks, Jenn |

Be careful with the weight gain. I took it for 4 weeks and gained 30 lbs. But then again I was eating all the time. It made me so hungry all the time. And i was tired most of the time.

I started a thread called "Zyprexa I'm gonna quit" recently. I just wanted to eat and sleep on it. And I gained a fair number of pounds fairly quickly.

I also took Zyprexa, along with Lithium. I was sent home from the hospital on it. I gained alot of weight. When I finally saw my Pdoc, she called it the killer combo, and switched me out.

I was on Zyprexa. It worked well but I gained about 15lbs a month on it. Horrible weight gain!! I'm on zeldox (ziprasidone) now and it's amazing!

I gained weight really quickly on Zyprexa too, no increase in eating tho. Zyprexa is known for the weight gain. It helped my mania and psychosis pretty good tho, it was pretty effective for that and sleep. Akathisia (restlessness), orthostatic hypertension ( I did get this pretty bad), body temperature regulation problems, and I did get dry mouth too.
There are many more side effect so I would look it up. There can be some serious side effects with all atypical antipsychotics, that you should be aware of. Just in case you're not familiar. I think Geodon might be one of the antipsychotics with less side effects? Not trying to scare you from it either, I have had good results with Zyprexa a few times. |

Zyprexa is the undisputed king of obesity. I was on it with lithium. I felt so disorientated on it, I got off it relatively quickly, then struggled for a long time to lose the weight I gained.

Weight gain is the major one. You can ask you doctor about putting you on Zyprexa Zydis instead...less weight gain. Or add amantadine to counter-act the weight gain from zyprexa.

I love zyprexa but on a heavy dose I was a zombie and I gained 40 pounds over the course of a year. It is very effective though and controls thoughts and hallucinations. |
