I was in the middle of a dream last night when I heard somebody say right in my ear "Hey [drskipper]". It woke me up and I was flaying my arms trying to attack the voice but nobody was there. This has NEVER happened since I've been on my meds, but it has happened before I was dx.

My parents have been remodeling the kitchen where I keep my pills and I haven't been able to take my meds properly. I've missed about 3 doses and took a few at the wrong times. My doctor says missing a couple doses here and there is not a problem, but this week has been very irregular.

My parents are nearly finished with remodeling and it should only be another day or two to put the kitchen back together, so after that I should be back to taking my meds as usual. I leave them in the kitchen because it is easier to remember and my parents can make sure I don't forget. Should I be worried about a possible episode, or do you think if I go back to taking my meds normally things will go back to normal? Thanks!

Also, is this something I should tell my parents or doctor? I'm seeing my doctor this week but not sure if this is of any significance.

i would mention it...it is something significant & to keep in mind also perhaps until then you need to keep your meds in the bathroom or your room..someplace more accessible.
Thanks for this!

I agree with stumpy. Keep your meds where you can get to them.
Yes, I think things will get back to the way they were
This voice must have felt threatening or you recognized it as being threatening from a past experience?
I admit that would be disconcerting but I might want to hear what the voice had to say.
Take care Doc

The voice was questioning, like he was about to say "what's wrong?" I didn't feel threatened by the voice itself, more about the fact I thought there was someone other than me in my bed.

The other voice I heard before I was dx was very creepy and ominous. This voice sounded concerned. Not the same voice either.

I don't think that the voice is necessarily anything to worry about as it is considered 'normal' to hear voices in the in-between state of wake and sleep. That being said, you mentioned that you used to hear voices before being diagnosed, presumably when you then started effective meds? I would set an alarm or something so that you can take your meds as prescribed even midst the home remodelling chaos and mention it to your pdoc when you next see them. Unless it occurs frequently when wide awake after you've gone back on your meds properly or is distressing (sounds like it wasn't) I shouldn't think it is a problem, but obviously you know yourself best.

Take care,

*Willow*

you are taking zyprexa right DrSkipper? I'm not sure, just an idea, but with antipsychotics there is a chance of rebound psychosis, or that's maybe a laymens term, upon the drug leaving the body it can actually cause some hallucinations. This does happen to me with these types of meds. I don't if that's it but it's possible.

okay, well I'll see what happens when I go see him on wednesday. I will probably just tell him about not taking my meds properly I don't think the voice is all that significant anymore =/

So I talked with my pdoc, I am definitely bipolar. He is so great, he answers all my questions, even the ones I haven't asked. It turns out I haven't seen him in person since October, but have been emailing him off and on.

It's been three and 1/2 months since I lowered my zyprexa, so we are lowering it again to 1.25 mg. I am SO excited!

We talked about alot of things. I brought up wanting to get off them eventually, and he gave me advice on how to do that, though he said nowadays its not something he would normally advise because of the health risks involved. I decided that life's too short not to take risks, I'm going to go off them, but very slowly. We talked about other meds and I told him the lithium and zyprexa are working great and I don't want to change them. He also warned me not to change meds in the middle of big decisions like changing careers or buying an apartment. I am hoping to get a job soon, so I am going to take extra precautions in monitoring any changes.

All in all I feel wonderful and I am so excited that my doctor is willing to help me through it all.

Glad you have a good relationship with your pdoc and you feel he is a great help during this time. That's excellent and very, very important.

I just wanted to wish you good luck. Hope things get better soon.
Thanks for this!
