Hi everyone

I've spent some time reading the posts and everyone seems really helpful and supportive so I thought I'd throw something in, if that's ok.

Very briefly, I've had depression for over 10 years, now 30y/o, and in a 2-year resistant phase. Currently on Lamictal, Zyprexa and Prozac due to a bit of a "maybe" manic episode.

Anyway, cue me deciding that after putting back on the stone that I had lost whilst feeling wired, I stopped taking Zyprexa yesterday, and didn't sleep well. Instead I took some Seroquel which I had left from my many past daliances with meds.

Today I couldn't work and really really needed to. Really. (I'm a Masters student). I took some Lyrica (pregablin - anti-anxiety) because I felt very agitated and quite anxious. Also, admittedly, because it makes me feel "high". Not a good idea I know. and not in a productive work way either. So I'm trying to resign myself to tidying the mess before the in-laws get here.

Not really sure what I'm trying to say. My pdoc is away until next week so can't see him. Appreciate I shouldn't have stopped Zyprexa but it made me SO down to be SO hungry all of the time. But self-medication isn't great either.

Not sure what I feel. A bit high, a bit wired, but very down.

Just I guess wanting people to listen and some support :-) very vague I know.

I just want to sort myself out and be able to work and function like a normal person x

Hi sparklingbubbles - welcome to the forum.

Sometimes the side effects of our meds are so frustrating. It is hard to stick with them some days. I hope you can connect with your pdoc soon so you can both find something else that might be more tolerable than the Zyprexa.

Again, welcome!

I think you should talk to your pdoc about switching from zyprexa to a different anti-psychotic. Zyprexa is the worst for weight gain. There are plenty of newer anti-psychotics out there that cause little to no weight gain. Talk to your pdoc about trying geodon (if you want something sedating) or abilify (if you want something more activating). You don't have to be hungry all the time, there are other options out there!

Welcome to PC.
Definitely need to talk with your pdoc about a different mood stabiliser or anti psychotic. I'm on abilify and have actually managed to lose some of the weight I put on while on Lithium.
good luck with your studies.

Thankyou so much to you all. I've been on lithium as an augmenter for my AD at the time and it didn't have that side effect, so maybe that's an option again.
Really appreciated that you took the time, I hope to support you soon!

Glad you have joined us here at PC. Hang in there until your pdoc gets back, and keep us updated. There are something like 3000 different psych meds (or med combos) so it shouldn't be too hard to find one you can live with. In the meantime, you might not want to stop the zyprexa cold turkey while you wait. Could you cut it in half and see if that's a little better?

You've made me feel so welcome - thankyou! I won't stop it - spoke to my other half who had been told by my psych to never let me do that. So I'm not. So thankyou - I feel you've really helped!

So. My pdoc asked me to keep taking Zyprexa since it's the best by far he's seen me in a couple of years. That was the case a few weeks ago but things gone down-hill since then. I actually said no (despite pleading with him a few weeks ago to keep on it) because the weight gain, despite my best efforts, has been soul-destroying.

So tapering down, and then staying on lamictal and prozac so cross fingers! thanks for all your support x
