Hi everyone!
So I am new to the bipolar, world, life, I dunno, but I have been on lamictal and klonopin and was weaned off welbutrin. I feel though, that the depression has returned and is as bad as it was when I first sought help. So I have a question: Is it worth talking to my doctor about getting back on an antidepressant? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Some people do better on a mood stabalizer and an anti-depressant. Finding the right combo of medication is really hard sometimes. A lot of people with bipolar sometimes go years misdiagnosed with depression because the depressive side is more common in them.

It is always worth telling your doctor about things that are negatively impacting you. That's really important with something like bipolar because there aren't any blood tests, etc.

That depends:

1. Are you bipolar I or II? Any other disorders?
2. Do you have mostly depressed, manic, hypomanic, or mixed episodes?
3. What happened on the wellbutrin, and why did you go off of it?
4. What other meds have you tried?
5. Describe your symptoms when you are manic -- how extreme does it get?
6. Describe your depressive symptoms right now -- how bad is it? Are you able to function? Go to work/school? Do you think about harming yourself?
7. How much did the lamictal help with the depression? What is it doing for you now, if anything?
8. What dose of lamictal and klonopin are you on?

Sorry, I know that's a lot of questions!

It is very important to tell your doctor about everything you are going through. I often deal with depression, but have found that when I am put on an antidepressant I become manic and it takes awhile to stabilize me. Like you, I am also taking Lamictal and it has helped me A LOT. At times my psychiatrist will adjust the Lamictal to deal with my depression. It does take awhile for the doctors to find the medications that work right for you so just hang in there. I hope that you have a good support system. When I was first diagnosed (in 2000) I had a couple of friends that helped me get through the rough times.

Welcome to PC
I'm on a antidepressant as well as mood stabiliser. I think you should talk to your pdoc about it.
Hope things improve for you soon.

I want to go back on a anti depressant.

I have BiPolar 1 & Borderline Personality D.
I am taking Tegretol and Haldol only

I feel like my depression is taking hold again and I am also having thoughts of SI, but no actual feelings if that makes any sense.

My Doc is sending me for a tegretol level before she does anything. Sux.
