This might have nothing to do with your memory problems but I have
had memory problems since I was a little kid because of bipolar disorder
not because of any medication. Are your problems new? Do bipolar meds
effect the memory in a negative way. I have never experienced this but
then again I wouldn't know it if I did.

I have an amazing long term memory. the only time ive had short term memory loss is back in the day when i smoked too much pot. this is really new started about a week ago. my lon term memory is still good, but i'll forget simple things, and its happeneing more frequently.

Lithium turned me into a goldfish. Seriously, it wasn't cool, but over time after I quit it, my memory returned in all it's splendour.

LOL, so didn't even see the street drug thing! Maybe try an omega3 supplement to help your memory? or exercise it with memory games? bcos from my experience, it was ok at first, but then progressively got worse. It was terrible socializing and have zero recollection of the time everybodys talking about. Add that to teh trembling that turned into obvious shaking, I just HAD to quit taking it...

I hope you find ways to improve your memory

even a goldfish can intimidate me at times...

...I wish I didn't remember all the things I had to do
cos then it wouldn't matter so much to me when I
forget to do them!

...it seems to me that time is pretty forgiving and if I
could only remember that more often!
Thanks for this!

Yes it is a side effect, I'm suprized other members haven't confirmed this bcos I know I'm not the only one that experienced it. Please don't quit cold turkey tho, that was 1 of my least favourite experiences. Speak to your pdoc and explain that you can't be a goldfish and that you need a different mood stabilizer.

Goodluck

Lamictal? Once took 400 mg and couldn't retain information, frequently forgot what I was doing, couldn't remember a list of a few words etc. Normally, I have the memory of a sponge!

For information that is! If I read it, hear it or see it, I remember but, I do forget to eat. Think I did something but was really just thinking about it. Forget what year or month it is. Never know the day of the week! Ask me about last week and I really don't know anything but, ask me for some information I learned last week I can tell you all about it and where I was when I got that info!

Bipolar disorder really makes people have bad memory? Hmm.

yeah im only on 100mg of lamictal and 450mg of lithium. but within the last two weeks my memory has gone from know everything to not remembering what i said within minutes of when i said it. im starting to feel like a stoner. i like the meds im on they make me feel better kind of. the downer effect makes me a little depressed but i can't deal with that. the memory thing i can't deal with. i know klonopin can cause memory lost if you take it too much but i only take that when i need it. which is about once every couple of days.

Hi, I'm on lithium, lamictal & klonapin. I have a little bit of short term memory which I think is the lithium. My pdoc just reduced my lithium which I've been on for over a year, I'm not too happy about it. But I do what I got to do to be well.

My memory was shot until I was put on Concerta for ADD. I also play online mind games on FB to exercise my memory like Scrabble, Words with Friends and Hidden Chronicles.

I refuse to get old and not remember jack ****. I swore I was in the early stages of Alshemier's Disease until I started to exercise my mind.

Try to do some things to make you really have to think and you will probably see your memory improve.

I have a similar problem. I'm on lamictal an lithium. I wonder if it's a side effect of lithium? Its the only new one. I have been on lamictal forever without this problem.
