Hey guys. New to this whole thing. I've been having symptoms of hypo mania the last couple days. Increased sex drive, being loud, irritable and easily distracted. In between, tho, I have moments of complete calm and contentedness. Like sitting outside I am fine ppl watching with exception of yelling at a few teenagers for smoking pot and drinking beers. For some reason, possibly because a kids playground is right here, it really pissed me off. Is it normal to feel calm when hypo manic?

For me it is sometimes, between the excitment, loud thoughts and panic attacks from sensory overload. Heck, it is normal for me to feel as if I'm depressed for several hours sometimes too. Just all over the place, if it is calm, it is somehow amplified, like I'm "too calm" or that I'm extremely happy to the point of being excited with how calm I am...bipolar is weird.

its common, yes.

Even when one is depressed, there are glimmers of hope.
Having lucid moments during any kind of episode or even in schizophrenia, is "normal".

I think when it comes to bipolar just about anything is possible. I really hate the mixed episodes. Can't slow it down feels as though your hanging from a rope then some yarn, and then finally a thread for dear life, losing your grip on sanity. Anyone else out there ever feel that way?

oh ya! I really hate the mixed rapid cycling episodes. It is impossible to move forward. I have to wait til the storm settles down before I can even think about goals or plans.

Hypo mania for me is not being able to be still physically or mentally. I get very irritated at minor things like the noisiness from my kids, for example. I also get stomachaches and headaches from the stress I feel during this time. The only thing I can find that is good about hypo mania is that I have more energy despite sleeping less, and I am never tired during the day.

Yeah, calm moments during mania are normal. For me, even an occasional full night's sleep is normal. Just because you are manic, does not mean you are high 24/7. It just means you are high the majority of the time, or experiencing symptoms that correlate with mania (irritability, elevated mood, etc), instead of a standard mood or a depressed mood.

Im so glad to hear that it is typical in hypomania to go from euphoric..calm...irritable...and back again. From what Ive gathered about myself so far (which is very little in comparison to others) is that Im generally euphoric (during hypomania)...However it was a different story when I was drinking..smoking pot and poping pills...yikes.. =/ Now my irritability is being tempted to tell someone to shut up...or say something unkind, or yell at my cat, lol.
