Yesterday I left work early due to high anxiety and depression. I didn't want to be around anyone so I left to go home. I went to my room shut the door behind me turned on the tv and watched from 2pm to 12am without eating dinner until I passed out. I am thinking on taking a leave of absence from work but feel as if I am a failure for doing so. I know I need the time off to allow the medication to kick in and get a way from work since its a high stressed job.

Your not a failure Jaypop30 taking the time you need to fix things is very mature. You may feel like your letting down your boss, co-workers, patrons and yourself but don't beat yourself up too much over it. Personally I think a leave of absence would be helpfull so why not.

Good luck and try minimizing the stress level.

You are not a failure for recognizing that you have needs right now and that they need to be met. I think it's even called being responsible for ones self. I know the feeling tho, I struggle accepting that I'm on disability.

But I'm not letting anyone down, I'm making the best choice so that I can be a good and present mother. I think in the end my kids will appreciate that, and I need to accept that my situation is just not the norm but it's alright. Taking care of yourself isn't easy, try to be proud of yourself for taking your needs seriously!

You are not a failure. If your depression is effecting your work, it is actually better to take a leave than to try to struggle every day. Society doesn't "appreciate" depression. If you are at work and something happens and say you're depressed, the reaction is rather negative. But if you take a leave for "health reasons" then people see it differently.

And you know what? It is health reasons, don't let anyone say differently. Your health is important.

Take a leave but only if it isn't going to lead to you lying in bed for weeks on end. I've taken time off for depression and cut it short because I found without work as a motivator to get me out of bed each day, no matter how I struggled, I would be wasting away. Getting worse not better.

At that time though, I was at a job that didn't need me to be much more than a machine going through the motions.

Do what you need to do for yourself.
