Hey! Today I was talking to my cousin about the people who suffer from mental disorders (as I am one of them but she doesn't know), so I asked her how does our Arabian community see people who are mentally sick? Her answer gave me a shock which was that they see them as complicated and insane people and everyone would start to just avoid them . This answer made me feel so desperate and made me just don't want to ever tell anyone about my depression and bipolar disorder....

I've very sorry
It can be really difficult to hear/deal with other people's reactions to mental disorders. Sometimes it works to enlighten them, but sometimes you just need to create your own family of sorts, of people who accept and respect you and who you are. You can start with the people on here

If you ever need to rant, I'm usually around, and someone one these forums almost always is.

That's what I am trying to do . Trying to create my own family over here. It makes me feel great to know that there is someone who understands me. I would be glad if you accepted to be a member of my family
thanks for your great support

I agree, make you're own family, they'll guide, support and relate. The outside world is still kinda retarded regarding mental disorders, I swear they think we foam at the mouth running around nude biting people and are contagious! Lol. Don't feel bad, she gave you an honest answer, thats not to say she would treat you like that, and... if she is a tad bit on the 'retarded' side maybe a bit of education would be enlightening, but its how things are in that specific culture. Vent, rant or cry away, here's always someone to listen

Exactly.. I just feel that they think that we are some monsters who are gonna just eat them ... And it's not her answer which made me feel bad it is just that I was just one step away to tell my family and friends and everyone about my disease and then her answer just made me go 10 steps back. I am sure she won't treat me that way but will just treat me in a pity way ( which I really hate). and you are welcomed too to my family which I started creating
Thanks alot for your help and support
You guys returned my smile back to me, i almost forgot how was it like Thanks

Its a pleasure! And I would love to be your family why don't you break it to them in stages? Have talks surrounding the topic, get a feel for where they're at, and if they go off on a bipolars are werewolves trip, ask 'so you think I'm a werewolf?'... Lol, you know what I mean (I hope) and be firm about the zero tolerance for pity. Pity is so useless anyway, serves no purpose

Angel, it's the same way in the Italian community, or any really, I think. There are people who admit they are in pain but don't want to inflict their pain on others (that's us, the so-called mentally ill), and then there is everybody else, people who are also in pain but who do inflict their own pain on others. A truly kind person? is rare.

Other cultures are the same. In Hong Kong, people are stressed and many have depression plus probably other mental illnesses, but the general population's attitude is to label mental illnesses as crazy and being a stigma to society. Much worse attitude than North America. For example, I get admitted to hospital there in Hong Kong for mental issue and get discharged with a medical diagnosis. I don't know if my friend and the doctor decided on this or what. But it showed me how much worse their attitude is compared to North America. (((hugs)))
