does anyone else use energy drinks to get through a day? It's not that i don't have any energy to begin with, it's that i have to do the work of two, alone. I do landscape maintenance and i have no one to work with. doing seven properties a day is nothing new to me and since being on my AP med I have found that I can't do it alone. So I have resorted to this. Any ideas?

I don't drink them because I don't want them to push me over the edge. I used to over caffine myself with coffee.

But, my husband drinks them because he says they help him focus. I hear that it is common to self-medicate with energy drinks.

I would say exercising is a good way to build energy but you already have a very physical activity job. Also maybe look at your diet? Having a poor diet can really effect your energy. Also making sure you get to bed at the same time every night can help, I think.

Too much caffeine can increase anxiety, so it would be good to be careful.

I like the taste of Rockstar and NOS and try to get them in bulk when they go on sale. Then I drink my entire stash. Sometimes right before bed. If you don't have energy to work with, caffeine doesn't help much. When you are worn down, what you need is more resources to work with.

Try eating some apples before work. It is supposed to be as effective as coffee for getting you going to start your day.

Quote:
Apples can wake you up better than coffee!

Coffee has the reputation of being a drink to consume for a quick boost of energy and remains the most popular source of caffeine humans consume on a regular basis, but did you know apples could be more effective in waking you up?

Coffee is so effective because of the caffeine it contains, which stimulates the senses and provides mental energy, yet it gives little physical energy to the body. Some claim that apples grant the energy boost coffee does through natural sugars, while also being one of the best foods to aid physical endurance. Many also favor apples over coffee because they fill the stomach and don't cause the many negative side effects coffee can.

I drink them sometimes. I like the sugar free red bull or the rockstar. I also am a huge fan of 5 hour energy shots; they have a buttload of B vitamins and the caffeine is nice. I must have some real out of balance chemical makeup in my mind, though, because I often yawn moments after drinking these...but 8 out of 10 times they seem to do the trick.

I've been drinking 1-2 energy drinks a day since I started working. I talked to my pdoc about this and he actually prescribed me provigil, to help me stay awake. Still haven't gotten it though, b/c insurance hasn't approved it yet. booo....

I dropped caffeine ten years ago or so. Didn't like the rebound headaches I was having. Rarely have headaches anymore. One of the best things I ever did for myself.

Once in a great while thy make me hyper and talkative, my son laughs at me.

Also if I have too much sugar, like candy (we usually eat it while we play board games) it makes me crazy- goofy and giggly-can't stop laughing. My daughter and I just laugh laugh laugh at the stupidest things.
Can't do that all the time- CALORIES- those damn things ruin everything.
Thanks for this!

I have never had an energy drink. I drink two cups of coffee a day before 3PM (doctor's advice on timing and quantity), including on weekends, because if I skip coffee on weekends, I get a caffeine withdrawal migraine. So I make sure I have adequate level of caffeine - not too much, not too little - in my blood. It is actually one of my customized "stay well strategies" in Optimism Online - "adequate caffeine".

My understanding is that coffee is better than energy drinks because coffee contains antioxidants and energy drinks, as far as I know, do not. I do realize that by drinking coffee with milk, I do not get the full benefit of antioxidants, but at least I get some.

the energy drinks probably have some antioxidants, they contain some fruit juice and extracts, vitamins, green tea sometimes. but it could not outweigh the free radicals and toxins caused by preservatives, and aluminum cans.

but a happy mind can be healing. i enjoyed one the other day, like, ooh this is pretty good, then had a little pick me up boost feeling for awhile.
