This is my first post on psychcentral, so please bear with me.
First, a bit about me. I'm an 18 yr old male who was diagnosed with depression and anxiety 18 months ago, got on 4 different antidepressants, bad reactions lead to a diagnosis of bipolar ii. Got on Lamictal, had a gallbladder episode, went to the ER (fueled by a panic attack) The ER docs told me to get off lamictal. I was pretty peeved at meds by this point because they had caused more harm than good. I was running out of options (that's what the psychiatrist said) my Pdoc had me on valium throughout this time, but my psychiatrist wouldn't let me have it because I admitted to drinking and smoking pot on occasion. instead, the psychiatrist said the only option would be Buspar for anxiety, which didn't help me and gave me headaches. I asked my psychiatrist to either give me better meds or let me have valium. He said there was nothing he could do. that was the last time I set foot in a psychiatrists office. Back to the pdoc, he gladly prescribed me valium but admitted he wasnt really equipped to treat people with psychiatric problems. still taking valium which helps a lot ffor anxiety, but depression is seriously threatening my success in school. I discovered kratom (a legal herb that acts on the opiate receptors but has many other mechanisms as well to successfully treat depression and anxiety. My chief concern of course is addiction to the substance. Has any Bipolar/depressed/anxious case benefited from this herb? I am a little weary of it because it can sometimes be too powerful of a drug and be extremely euphoric (this is the real deal.) any input is great.

Ah ok found your post on page 2, this forum can move quick. Welcome

How do you ingest the kratom herb? Where do you get it? Valium can cause depression you know... so watch out for that, and taper down when you stop using valium. I'm sure you know this.

pdoc=psychiatrist in here... so your general doc gave you valium after pdoc wouldn't?

You can order kratom from the internet mainly. It comes in a powdered or crushed leaf form and is primarily made into a tea. it tastes kindas bad, but it's very affective at combating anxiety and depression for me. And yes by Pdoc I meant general doc.

I cannot tell you anything about the herb, because I only learned about it from you, but I can tell you that you need a p-doc=psychiatrist, who would be equipped to treat your symptoms. The general doc is not equipped. Psychiatry is a large body of knowledge. There are currently plenty of drugs on the market and they interact with one another like crazy at times. Lots of different side effects and ways to manage/counteract them whenever possible. It is just too much knowledge for a general doc to absorb. So please find yourself a psychiatrist.

Possibly even look for a p-doc who specializes in adolescents. I mean, 18 is still an adolescent to me .

I agree, 18 is still a very adolescent age Sometimes I forget I'm not an old man with all the stuff that ive dealt with... I'm very open to meeting with a psychiatrist, so long as hes actually willing to get to know me. The last experience was useless, expensive, frustrating, etc. I cracked the windshield of my car out of anger after my final visit to that last pdoc. (don't worry I'm never violent to people or animals I just have a bad habit of destroying important/necessary things when I'm frustrated)

I was angry because I had wasted time and my mother's money only to be told that I couldn't recieve the medication that had been helping me and worse... the psych said I had no more options- a death sentence in my mind at the time.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
