I have waited all week to hear a confirmation about the job I was offered. Here's how it works. The principal recommends the hiring. Then the county does a background check, and then the school board approves the hiring. I was recommended for hiring, meaning the job is mine pending the background check. There's nothing in my past that required intervention from the law other than a couple of paid speeding tickets. I don't think my spending frenzies are criminal, it just gave me bad credit. I have taught for 20 years. So what is taking so long???? Aarrgh, I can't stand the wait! My life is on hold right now. Patience is not my virtue. I even used to peek at Christmas presents in my younger years.

I hear you. I HAD something in my past when my current job did a background check in June: my DL was taken from me in 2009 because my GP reported that I was bp and impulsive, and I only got the license back this year, and the record stays forever, and I have been told by the DMV that companies usually look at the most recent 3-5 years, and have a discretion not to hire someone because of that. I passed the background check, but it sure took forever!

I hope you wait is over soon!

MMD- that is a great idea.

Thank you notes are a good way to keep you fresh in the hiring manager's (hr, whatever) mind. I do some hiring in my current role and I always appreciate that gesture, if the candidate was a good possibility in the first place, I kinda tend to give brownie points for a thank you note/email. I personally prefer the paper note because I think it shows that I was worth the ink and stamp.

Good luck

thank you note might not be necessary if she's already been approved for hire. she is just waiting for all the background check formalities - right? maybe call them and ask how the process is going?

but i'm so happy you sound so jazzed about the job now, not so on the fence about if you can handle it. you sound totally ready! go girl!!

Wanna know why Southern women are not s.l.u.t.s? Because they'd have to write too many thank you notes! (my mom is southern, taught me that joke lol)
Thanks for this!

It's because of "bureaurcracy" paper delays, common in all buiness employment, is my guess.

I'd cut a lemon in half and squeeze it into a 3/4 glass of ice cold water and drink it. That helps calm the system so much in just a couple of hours. After 4 hours, if you aren't calm within, follow the same pattern over again. That will do it, for sure.

I feel sure you'll get the job. If you weren't going to get it, you'd be notified by now. The longer the delay, the better chance that the job is yours.

Good luck.

Well, believe it or not, I got the call a few minutes after a griped and complained on here. I start on Monday, so I had to run out and get a tb test and physical today-$85. Also, the state is now compensating me for my master's degree, they haven't done this in the past 6 yrs. that I have taught in NC, so I have to get my license changed-$55. All of this cost to go to work, and I won't get paid until November 1st!
